Is anyone familiar with jiffy peat pellets, their compressed discs of moss and when you wet them they expand to a fairly large size, are these suitable to use in drip system or should i make the 2 hour drive to purchase some rock wool cubes, in addition to the medium i choose i am using the BC line of nutes and hydrotron, just expanded clay pellets. i also purchased my system from http://www.genhydro.com/genhydro_US/waterfarm.html i have the waterfarm 8 pack but only gonna run 4 for now without the big resovire so they stay self contained, if the peat pellets are ok then i can go ahead and grow my first hydro crops im very excited any input is greatly apreciated. -d00b3r
actually thats exactly what i used. jiffy pellets should work as good if not better than rock wool for cuttings but i used rock wool. just because i had the 4 inch cube to put them in so i didnt want to use jiffy cubes. i used bc nuts and hydroton rocks with rock wool worked well for me good luck.
yes the rockwool if properly conditioned is best for hydro, peat pelts are not as good because they break down over time and peat becomes soil(not exactly soiless). Just remember to buy the rockwool conditioner with it. PS. instead of buying the blocks get a slab and cut it yourself, its cheaper and you'll have enough for several grows.
