Hi im new here and new to hydroponics but my question is,,,, well i bought this 18 gallon DWC tub with 8 sites for plants and a fish tank bubbler, and a 400 watt light and i bought the genral hydro series of nutrients,, why does the tub size need to be so big? and im wanting to use it for lowriders seeds we got,, and when i plant the rockwool in the cups is it suppose to sit on the bottom of the cup or what?? or do i put the clay pellets in bottom of cup then add plant... any advice will be appreciated.. thanks
1. The containers are large to allow root growth, if you allow them to grow, the root system will be massive. 2.Place some clay pellets in the bottom, then place your rockwool, then place pellets around the rockwool. You can place some on top of rockwool, but I would wait until the stem is strong enough to handle them. 3. Find a cannabis formula online for the GH nutrients, I usually start the plants lower than recommended or they get nute burn. 175-250 ppm to after 2-3 sets of leaves, gradually raise it as plants get larger. There are plenty of feed charts for the GH Flora series nutes. Also you need to maintain PH level of the water, plenty of charts on forum for that, usually recommended between 5.4 - 6.2 PH. 4. Look into LST, SCROG, SOG growing methods to increase plant size and yield. 5. 18 gallons is a lot of water, you will use a good bit of nutes so plan for that. I would recommend changing out reservoir no less than every two weeks. Hydro can give you larger yield of thicker more potent product faster with most strains. You have more control over the grow, which is what I like best about hydroponics. Good Luck!
