Anybody else expecting this thing? “Ian” is a cool Heavy Metal name but I hate these storms regardless. July-August was stormy in SC so I hope this doesn’t finish the garden off.
I’ve seen these things die down and I vividly remember Hugo. inland SC is always a crapshoot. All of the events and schools have been cancelled around the upstate. It’s quite windy out there now and my power has flashed twice already which usually isn’t a good sign.
I've never experienced a hurricane, but hope everyone and their stuff is ok. Kinda wish we had one here, wash away the idiots.
Been feeling the storm all day and would be lying to say it doesn't have me a little bit freaked out. I can't remember a hurricane that you could distinctly feel from so far away. That and the lackadaisical mood that everyone has approached this storm with for some reason at least in our area. I definitely hope it stays out to sea
We're on the edge of it now. No rain yet, but really windy all day. We're supposed to get a lot of rain over the next couple of days though.
I'm in Norfolk, VA where it's windy and rainy, but not too bad, yet. Coastal Flood Watch in effect for the day.
So far it’s just rain in the upstate of SC but a close friend in the Columbia midlands says it’s quite windy there. This “cone of uncertainty” is stressful.
We were on the edge of it and luckily survived without too much damage. I would not recommend being anywhere near one. In the future I plan to bug out and come back when it's over.
I was thinking about you yesterday wondering how things were going for you and yours because of this storm . I live in a county that borders Virginia and Our local TV news was on from 4:30am till late yesterday evening they were really hyping it up. It finally made it to my area of NC yesterday afternoon . I was a little concerned about several trees on my property possibly coming down but by the time it made it to me it wasn't the powerhouse it was when it made landfall in Florida or even when it made landfall in SC. it was just a glorified rainstorm with some wind. We never lost power .
Thanks a lot. The wind kicked up pretty good for several hours and about 2 inches of rain. I’ve got a few trees that worry me but no damage. The coastal areas got much worse. However I heard on the news that College football is playing so I guess our world is back. I’m sure none of the heads in those hills of prohibition NC are jumping the line to VA to get that smoking grass are they? I’m near and played a bunch of music in West NC and they seem to like a buzz.
In Norfolk, VA, on the Chesapeake Bay in Ocean View, we did fine at our house. No loss of power and just one chair and an umbrella ended up in the pool. I went to the gym this morning to find power out there so no workout today. Small matter. A walk around the block didn't reveal any trees, or even big limbs down. I know all of Ocean View didn't fair as well, but we were lucky here.
There is a large man made lake about 30 minutes from me thats called Kerr lake aka Bugs island that straddles the Virginia north Carolina border I've owned lakefront property on the NC side but ATM I'm strongly considering renting a small mobile home on the Virginia side in one of the many privately owned mobile home parks on the Virginia side just for the Virginia address to gain legal access to the Virginia cannibus . The wife and I could live 6 months on the lake and six months at our current NC home . I'm just getting tired of waiting for our state politicians to legalize . You mentioned music earlier what type do you play and what instruments ?
I used to play guitar, bass, and mando but got a back ailment that limits my left hand. I mess with keys and slide guitar now. I used to go over to Shelby, Forest City, and Golden Valley to play and party a lot. The place is crawling with good musicians. If I were younger I’d think about hunting something as you describe in VA. These SC politicians aren’t giving in to pot and you have many of the same types there. The Native area in Cherokee NC had medical pot and were looking at rec as far as I know. That’s a beautiful area with great fishing.
You know its strange I've been playing music for a really long time Been in a few bands that were very good but as I got older my love of music never decreased but the style of music that I was drawn to changed. I guess it came from my childhood. I was raised on country music and bluegrass and over the years my desire to play older country and strangely enough bluegrass started infiltrating my life. I approached my bandmates about incorporating some country and bluegrass in to our practices. Once we sat down and really talked about it we all came to the conclusion that we were all raised on those 2 styles of music and were greatly influenced by them. So we added a few older country songs by Cash , Haggard and Willie Nelson and even added some bluegrass tunes we really like Ralph Stanley and the clinch mountain boys one of their songs we routinely play is Bootleg John it always seems to get a great reaction from the croud . I dont know to many bands that offer the likes of Quite Riot and Ralph Stanley in the same show but we pull it off .
