Hunter S. Thompson Project

  1. For my english class this year, we have a paper that we have to do in pieces throughout the entire year, where the focus is an author. I chose Hunter S. Thompson. The first part of the project is based on the authors life and lifestyle, not his literary works. I have come up with a creative way to present hunter s thompsons life

    so far my ideas are:

A mock suitcase that resembles the one he carries around in fear and loathing, and has known to carry in real life. An d have each item with a written bit about how each drug/item affeted his life

A fake notebook that he wud of kept on one of his journeys...

    any other ideas or feedback?>

  2. his cigarette holder
perhaps the article he was composing when he "killed himself" that was supposefly going to reveal the "truth" about 9/11

  3. is that true?

i rlly want to do that... got any more info on that

  4. The suitcase idea is the tops, amigo, to be sure, but good luck finding one that resembles it to a tee. Also, don't focus primarily on the drug aspect of his life, as there was a lot more to it than that (as a matter of fact, his most heavily used drug was alcohol [just something to sit on]).

If you do go through with the suit case idea, practice his mannerisms and movement as illustrated in Fear and Loathing and Where The Buffalo Roam and walk into class, holding the suit case, acting him perfectly. Anyone who knows anything about Hunter will get a kick out of it.

You need a Doberman Pincher, though.... named Bronco.

  5. Hunter S. FTW

thats all i got to offer. But i love the suitcase idea.

  6. I'll find it. I don't think he published it, or I would look for it in Kingdom of Fear...

Wikipedia said something about it, hold on... here it is:

Err... here's the article, if you feel like purchasing it... so much for free press.

    :p

  7. [edit] nevermind, just read that ^^^^

i forget which good sites i found the info on, but you can start on wikipedia. i know for a fact that his WIKI has a lot of info about his supposed suicide, and the article he was composing during his death about 9/11.

i never actually found and read the article - but he was writing it - check wiki first and it should at least start you off right - but don't use only wiki for very obvious reasons

    isn't the "suitcase" a typewriter?

always thought it was... made more sense.... unless it was his drug 'case... either way

yeah, you'll need a shaker of chivas (scotch whiskey), some toot, a typewriter, sunglasses, a visor (preferably a casino dealer style one), and i may add more later

    PLEASE*****PLEASE*****PLEASE*****PLEASE*****PLEASE******

give this man the respect he deserved, not for being an icon to the drug culture, but he was indeed a very polite, smart, compassionate, and funny individual... for instance, do some research on Lisl Auman's story... here's a vid to start you out but there's sooooo much more that REALLY was this man than Where the Buffalo Roam and F&L in LV which were subject to artistic license

  9. trust me dude...arino, i have watch fear and loathing and where the buffalo roam many times, read his biography, his wiki page, his eulogy, various stories in kingdom of fear, and fear and loathing on the campaign trail... i know him pretty well, and ill do my best to portray him as the literary genious and symbol of counterculture that he is

  10. phew....

i was hoping you weren't one of those kids that saw fear and loathing and decided you knew all there was to know

    i now have faith ;)

if you reaaaallly want to get to know the guy, check out "Kitchen Readings: The Untold Stories of HST" by Bob Braudis and Michael Cleverly, Woodycreek's Sherriff and one of his close friends/neighbors..... provides a "non-Hunterized" look at things hillllllarious stories in there

  11. Oh! Oh!

Bring a can of mace into the class room and tell the story of when Ralph Steadman and Hunter were in a restaurant with Hunter's brother when Hunter came up with the brilliant idea of macing the entire restaurant, believing that was the only way to escape.

Then hold the can of mace out at your audience and start screaming like a hound let loose from hell, telling them to release you immediately.

    :p

  12. ill get on that... gotta get the bear mace

  13. Cant wait for The Rum Diary on the silver screen. Depp is playing him again and will do it well.

  14. Thats right =)

I suggest you take exerts from "Where the buffalo roam" (with bill murray) because it depicts him better than Fear and Loathing.

Also, if you want to do something about Thompson, you will need the see through green Las Vegas visor, the Raf-Style Sunglasses, and a Gold tipped cigarette holder.

    Go from there.

  15. Although "Where the buffalo roam" is a great movie I disagree that it depicts him better.

    Just my opinion.

You should Drink some wild turkey and do some ether before your presentation.

Reminds me of when I was in high school I did a book report on fear and loathing. No one knew anything about HST and needless to say I got alot of wierd looks afterwards.

  16. I respect your opinion fully.

But are you suggesting Fear & Loathing depicts him better?

Fear & Loathing was set for entertainment purposes, fully. All Hollywood non-sense. I will admit it is an amazing move though.

I just don't understand how you could think that it depicts him even remotely close to Where the Buffalo Roam.

But off that subject, to the OP, I highly suggest reading "The Great Shark Hunt" (Gonzo Papers Volume 1) to get a good outlook on HST. It's quite lengthy, I haven't finished it yet, being it's 602 pages. But you will have a new found respect for the man, even more-so than before if you know anything about him, which I fully expect you do.
