I have read that vegging plants like MH better, and flowering plants like HPS better. I have also read that while HPS lights make the vegging plants stretch, the increased growth and yield from using HPS all the way more than makes up for this. Which one is right? I am getting 2 lights no matter what because I am having separate vegging and flowering closets. Should I get 2 400W HPS or 1 HPS and 1 MH, 400W each?
its all about the spectrum of the light mh carries the blue side of the spectrum which is good foe veging and hps carries the red orange side of the spectrum which is good for flowering . it is up to you to waigh your options out this your grow room . happy growing . peace
Indeed, vegging plants do like MH better b/c it provides a spectrum of light that promotes stem, root and leaf development as well as keeping the plant a bit more squat. I do not know that anybody has done an actual scientific study for cannabis on yield differences between MH/HPS and HPS/HPS. There are just so many variables, but I can't see the HPS from start to finish outperforming the MH/HPS. I've seen some MH-HPS/MH-HPS and the results are awesome. Unequivocally, because you are getting 2 lights no matter what, get the MH and HPS.
your basically creating the closest spectrum of light compared to the sun when using BOTH MH and HPS lights at one time. there really is no fight between mh and hps. if your going to choose between one(which im not sure why you would seeing as its an easy wiring job for an mh to run off of an hps ballast) i would choose an hps only because of the flowering effects. but your best bet is buy 2 bulbs one mh conversion or hps conversion depending on your ballast.
Read his post again. He wasn't considering using just a MH. His question was, with 2 separate grow chambers, would he be better off with 2 HPS or 1 MH and 1 HPS. Hopefully he has already placed the order for 1 MH and 1 HPS
