I am buying a lighting kit that comes with both a 1000 watt high pressure sodium bulb and a 1000 watt metal halide bulb and I didn't know why it came with both and wondered if I was wasting money by purchasing both, or if one was used for veg while another was used for flowering, thanks for all who help
I'm assuming the light you bought can use both mh and hps, mh bulbs are best for the vegetation stage whereas hps bulbs are best for the flowering stage, though you can use the hps bulb for veg and flower stages with no problem
Here is the light kit I am buying: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Garden+++Patio-_-Virtual+Sun-_-9SIA05F000GJ64
if you want to save some money of the electric bill you could veg under some cfls or t5. then use the hps during flower. i just fell that 1000w x 18hours a day is alot but if its not a problem then go for it! i wish i had a set up like that
Yes, the MH (bright white light) is used for vegging while the HPS (bright yellow/orange light) is used for flowering. To be honest you really don't need 1000w for veg. Its kinda overkill. And for flowering that light will give you optimum light for your plants, and are usually used for a 4+ plant set up(thats how bright/powerful the light is) Caution! These lights will run HOT and eat up electricity. Be sure to be mindful of temps and power consumption. I would reccomend t5's for veg. Loads of light with very little energy and heat. For the money however I would say its a good buy. The lights are usually 60-100 by themselves.
