HPS -vs- Metal halide

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Kro-Nesis, Dec 9, 2002.

  1. I recently read that HPS is really not good for the vegetative state. HPS is mainly used for flowering & Metal Halide is for vegetative . But what I am asking which is better for the entire growth period of SOG growing?

  2. I would imagine for sog you'd be better off with the blue spectrum MH and then flower with the red HPS....MH will grow the plant faster, but for best results in the flowering stage go with the HPS.......i.e. ideally you need to own both lights.....Peace out...Sid

  3. or most experienced growers who don't have the bucks to afford two sets of lights just use HPS

  4. Ya,I would just go with the HPS.It will do better in the long run.
    Peace

  5. i use both for flower mh for veg i got the mh right next to the hps in a 13 sq foot grow room

  6. I have been growing 1 plant(i know) for a while now. It's female and its starting to show signs of flowering.

I have been using 1 - 36 watt florescent bulb.

    My question is this...

Is it OK to start using a 250 watt HPS bulb at this point? I know HPS lights are good for flowering.

I tried it out for a few minutes. When I put the plant under the HPS it immediately started acting wild (leaves turn down/upside down/drooping literally in minutes right before my eyes.)

Not sure if it was just an initial reaction or what?

    Please advise.
