hps question on firing up

  1. lets say the power goes out for a few minutes and comes back on. Your suppose to wait about 15 minutes before turning your hps light back on right?

If the power goes out and back on within a few minutes or seconds wouldnt the light not fire up right. would leaving a light on not fired up properly pose any risks?

    what would happen?

No risks at all. There is actually a limiter that won't let the lamp fire until it reaches a certain temp. Usually about 15mins. It's all good.

  3. So if i were to unplug the light and plug it right back it won't fire up properly I know it would be very dull burn. But after 15min with the dull burn it fires up to the normal burn???

Ya sounds about right. It takes a lot of power to ignite the gas in the lamp. And as long as there is power going to the lamp it will try to fire. So don't just ram and jam it. It will fire. If it doesn't after 30-45mins and maybe a power cycle then I would get concerned. But that's why we always have back up lamps riiiiiiight. ;)

  5. lets say my power goes off for just a few minutes due to the weather but comes back on while im not home

assuming the power comes back on within a few minutes the bulb wouldnt light properly due to the fact the light was turned back on before the 15min you would normally wait

would the light stay in this improper dull state until I manually reset it by unpluging it for 15min or would after 15min would it fire back up properly

if it stays in the improper state is it safe to run like that for a few hours

looks like i might have to experiment with this if no one knows for sure
    thanks though

  6. Just did a test
I unpluged the light for about a minute
When I pluged it back in it did the hum and dull burn for about 15seconds and fired up properly

for some reason i was under the impression it would hum and not light properly until I unpluged it for 15minutes
maybe the old units did that or the cheap ones I dont know
mines doesnt which is a good thing
