HPS lighting noise. HELP!

The humming is perfectly normal.

You can try insulating the space with some noise dampering material, but my best advice to you is to wait to grow until you move into your own house. From the sound of you post, it sounds like you still live with your folks. Either tell them what is going on and get their OK, or stop your grow. It is not cool to grow in a house that you don't personally own or rent.

oh boy... a humming noise comes from your hps and thats normal?.... is this the LIGHT thats humming... or the big ass ballast thats humming? i hope its the ballast....

There shud be no noise from ur lights. I have a 250W & a 600W HPS and they are totally silent. Make sure it is connected properly. Do you have 2 connections on your ballast? I didnt plug 1 of them in the 1st time properly when I 1st got my 250 HPS and it made a loud buzzing noise!

If the humming from the ballast is that prominant upstairs I really wouldn't want to be you when they start flowering and indefinatly stink that den up.

 

the only ballasts that don't make noise are digital, and even those make a very quiet noise, like a cpu tower. Big C must have really good luck with his ballasts- or digital ones. humming coming from a solid-state ballast is totally normal. the higher the wattage, the louder the hum. unless the noise is coming from the bulb, which idk wtf thats about.

 

ISTANDALONE, totally respect ur opinion, but my lights dont make a sound. They are totally quiet! Dont know did I buy really high quality lights? but they cost me a good few bob. Dont remember now how much. Got them from my local head shop!

 

the light will make a tiny humming noise when it's just turned on and the ballast will always home, like already stated, i wouldn't grow in your parents place, i'd wait till you have your own place to grow.

i have a 250 watt light. its a floralux and the ballast is connected to the light. if it isnt perfectly level then it hums. if i level it out it isnt near as noticeable.
and i know what its like to want to grow in my parents house. i say do it if you can get away with it but be carefull.

 

Must hate your parents alot, cause if your grow is busted guess who gets cuffed, yeah your parents.

 

well i dont know because i love my parents and i grow in my house. just because you wanna grow weed in your house doesnt mean u hate ur parents....
the secret is to not get caught

 

saying that the secret is not to get caught is an ignorant, uncaring thing to say. its not worth it in any case to guerrilla grow in your parents house. esp. if they don't support it, cause all it takes is one little cop, and your parents are screwed.

 

All this talk about growing in your parents house my 2 cents is its cool as long as you pay attention to these three rules,no sell,no tell and no smell(I would double/triple up on the smell) if you do that your gully. One more thing dont Buy an Hps and use it at your parents house that just being greedy and disrespectful, just get a shit loud of Cfl's.

(A personal note) One of the first lessons i learned growing up was dont be greedy so stick to Cfl's)

dont grow in your 'rent's house unless they are cool with it. how would you feel if you had to watch your dad being cuffed and taken away to the shit-house all because you were too impatient to wait until you had your own place? even if you and your parents say "the owners of the house didn't know about it" it's still on them. and it'll be their lives you'll be fucking up. it's just a really bad idea. please understand i'm not hating on this grow, but irresponsible people give mj a bad name, and doing what your gonna do is just about as irresponsible as you can get.

 

Its almost impossible to grow in a house without anyone else living in it to find out.

I really wouldn't advise it unless your parents are cool with it. Dont be irresponsible.
