HPS grow.

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by HerbFreedom, Nov 26, 2011.

  1. Hi, I have a couple of plants entering their 6th week from germination under a 250watt HPS light in a cabinet. I am currently using this Organic 16-16-16 fertilizer. The cabinet is well ventilated and kept clean. How am I doing so far?

  2. lookin pretty damn good to me!
    Im no expert though

  3. uhm, your leaves shouldn't be pointing upwards like that. they also seem to be extreeemely skinny, could just get a true sativa.

Also, thats extremely small for 6 weeks...

Leaves pointing up or "praying" is a GREAT sign actually. Not extremely small for 6 weeks either. Keeping the plant under 24/0 keeps them squat with little stretch. Plants grow in the dark period, hence all the stretch during flower.

Plants are looking great bud!!! What strain are they? What medium you running in? Don't leave me hanging here bro. Lol :smoke:

  5. ive always associated praying leaves with mag defficiencys and or temperature issues, they dont look bad by any means but hows the temps and stuff? what kinda venting with that 250? Some of the tips look brown and curled, could be nute burn, what strenght you feeding em at?

  6. my plant at 4 weeks, apposed to his 6. Granted i have a 600w, not a 250 ... but still... those are small plants to be 6 weeks old under an HPS light.

  7. I have no clue about the strain. They are bagseeds
From a friend who germinated and forgot about them.
By the time I rescued them they were super stetched sprouts
    In the paper towel.

  8. you dont get more then 25-30% useable light from a hps in veg - you need some white/blue light or something that puts out more of a full spectrum or a higher K of light, so like 70% of the light is being wasted or not used by the plant

there are many problems with growing under a hps but it works you just get better results using a mh or T5/clf - if you can get a few of the cheep clf lights from home depot or whatever and use them also just to have more of a color spectrum for the plants and they are only like $10 or less sometimes it will help and not hurt so its worth trying

  9. i disagree, i have amazing results using HPS throughout my enitre grow. I see no true need for anything else. sure maybe a MH bulb would be better, but hps can create come amazing results

Not true what so ever. Not trying to be a dick, but it's not.

    Word!

  11. HPS have a lot of green and a good chunk of blue (450) in nanometers which is fine for vegging

  12. Something I forgot to mention before, you want a fert that is a 2-1-1 ratio as a rough guideline. Generically it's 20-10-10. Up your nitrogen and you'll see some good growth out of them.

  13. 12/4/11 update: I topped one of my plants. luckily all my plants turned out to be females :hello:

  14. Not true at all. There are no problems at with vegging under a HPS, and it will definitely veg better than T5s or CFLs. Much faster growth from HPS.
