hps electricity question

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by bigbuduk, Jun 26, 2008.

  1. hi how much electricity does a standard 1000 watt hps use up? is it kilowatts per hour? was just askin to see how much im goin to be lookin at spending in the meter:cool:

  2. Well you gotta know what the power company charges you per Kilowatt hour, look at your bill, then its pretty easy to figure out. (1 x hours used per month)x price=how much per month.

  3. its not my electricity bill but i will ask thanx for the help!!

  4. Yeah its really easy for you since your light is 1 kilowatt.

I just figured mine out for my 400w at 14 cents per KWh and its $20 and some change to run a month in a 30 day month. If anyone wants to do this with their lights that are not 1000w you need to divide by 1000 at the end

(your light wattage X hours used)X price, then divide by 1000=price per month

Edit: I figured mine out at 12 hours a day

  5. :confused:i was told a thousand watt growlight is easily detected by heli.s how could i make this heat non seekable if i installed it up in my closet??

  6. mind your ballast also.;)

heres a post from Smknvtec from 2006

    Teledingo,

Check out this link, this has been discussed before:

Here is what I said after some investigation

They can get heat signatures from an indoor grow room. They also can get an infrared signature from an outdoor grow known as FLIR. The other boys and girls are correct; both have been banned however; the cops still use them to confiscate plants but, not to prosecute. Check out these descriptions with links...

FLIR : Acronym for Forward-Looking Infrared, it is a thermal imaging process whereby differences in heat emission are measured and reflected on a videotape. Heat concentration is indicated on a videotape on a spectrum of light to dark, with bright white showing intense heat. Increasingly, law enforcement personnel are using FLIR thermal imaging to detect indoor marijuana growing operations. However, the Supreme Court in the U.S. has recently banned the use of FLIR to find these operations.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that Forward-Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) technology, which is used to detect heat escaping from grow rooms, is unconstitutional unless cops get a warrant to search your home first. However, cops are still known to use these devices illegally, especially if they just want to trash your grow house and take your plants, but not press charges.

Detecting heat from a distance is not an exact science. A strong heat source creates a weaker signal in a room that is well-insulated. Growers who are worried about FLIR technology should insulate their rooms thoroughly. They should also avoid excessive heat build up and vent outgoing air through a cooling system or other discreet method.

Also, I found some old info on another BB that said that for lights to be detected indoors 2- 1000 watt HID's have to be in use.

    hope it helps.:smoke:

  8. thank you for all the calculations. I live in manhattan and in my apt I have a digital electric meter. Currently I only have a 100watt hps and it seems to be sending the meter sky high!! Is it possible that I have a inefficient ballast? I'm using an outdoor light that I dissassembled and put to good use ;). But i can't understand why my meter is moving soo much.. It's only a 100watts.. any suggestions?

  9. The light you got should run anywhere from $5 to $10 a month, remember your computer sucks alot of juice so start turnin it off when its not in use.
