Hi Grasscity,

I'm J (short for Jason) - I live in Los Angeles where I live with my wife and our two cats. By day I'm a Flash Developer/IT Professional, by night I'm a fiction writer, guitar player and gamer. (Super Mario Galaxy 2, anyone? Phenomenal so far!)

I guess I'm a somewhat late-in-life smoker, in fact I was already 25 the first time I tried marijuana. Before then, I just listened too closely to what I was told, I guess. I'm pushing 33 now, but I've only been a regular smoker for the past 3 years or so.

For the last two of those years, I've been a CA Medical MMJ patient. Admittedly, I didn't initially seek out my doctor's recommendation for valid medical reasons, but I have come to find that the right strains do more for my ongoing issues with anxiety and depression than any pharmaceutical ever has. It's amazing how much easier it is to enjoy life when you can slow down and focus your mind enough to actually process it. I can honestly say I'm a much happier, calmer, warmer, more confident, more open person because of marijuana.

And now... I want to start growing. Not that anyone here on Grasscity is looking for reasons, but I have two main reasons for wanting to grow my own - 1) Money. Like the AM/PM commercial says, there's just "Too Much Good Stuff" down here and it's breaking me. 2) The availability and quality of my favorite strains are very inconsistent in SoCal.

I'm a huge fan of DJ Short's genetics. Flo, in particular, is easily my favorite strain. It has the exact effect I described earlier - calms me down, slows my thinking and allows me to just "exist." Not to mention it smells and tastes wonderful. DJ's Blueberry is also delicious and calming and very creative for me.

I was lucky enough to find a very reputable collective here in SoCal that carries clones of both Flo and Blueberry, supposedly cloned directly from DJ's Mother plants! What better way to start... but this will be my first attempt at growing, so I'll be starting small. I ordered one clone each of DJ's Flo and Blueberry, which should be available around the middle of next week. My plan is to grow them entirely indoor, using organic soil and nutrients, in accordance with DJ's best practices. But, now I've got to get cracking! I've started designing a Rubbermaid Vegetation box, which I plan to share over in the Absolute Beginners thread very soon.

Anyway, these forums seem really great and supportive and have already been tremendously helpful. I'm real glad to be here!
