How to slow down the flowering stretch??? Urgent!

  1. Hi All,

    DWC
    Gorilla zkittles
    600W HPS
    GH flora series 3 part

So about a week BEFORE i flipped to 12/12 my girls shot up and started hiting vertical boost! i quickly flipped to 12/12, and they havent stopped, its 3 weeks in now, got buds everywhere, but ive got 1 foot of room left for them to grow, any higher than that and they'll start getting way too close to the 600W HPS, at that point ill have no room to raise the light, so some questions:

    1. Should i cut back on the "Grow" part of the nutes? im already not adding much because im well and truely into flower, but if it will slow the vertical growth ill cut it back further.

    2. Should i raise the light as much as i can so they get less intense light and therefore less "energy" to stretch? or will that make it worse and i should put the light as close as i can?

Any other tips you can provide other than LST as the amount of work id need to do would be immense.

  2. Pic of plants? Could always just snap a tall branch and let it hang, see if the branch lives

  3. You might be able to just ride it out if you're not getting light burn you should be good esp if you still have headroom. They should be done stretching around wk 3-4

  4. The amount of stretch is genetic and nothing you can do will change that. That said you can use a very old trick to bend the lanky tops to horizontal without damaging the plant or cutting anything off.

With your thumbnail or pliers, what ever works crush a 6-12 inch area of the stem your bending. Keep crushing as you bend her over. Don't force till it "Snaps" as that will likely kill the top.
Fluids will flow past the crush where they won't past a Snap.
I use this to keep big plants below the top of the 6 foot yard wall so they can't be seen from the neighbors yards.

  5. The myth is, low N makes em stretch. Now I heard everything, but that is the latest. People said the high P flower formulas were causing the stretch. And somewhere out there on the internet, a woman, who is also a scientist claims that the sudden cutoff of N puts them into stretch mode.
as for lst, you can google supercrop. I have used that emergency operation and it's better than nothing. Toss up on the light, but you would think optimum light would not encourage excessive stretching. But yeah, you are right to think ahead about it. Supercrop is great if you planned on it. It was probably the poor grower out of room who discovered it when he was trying to kill his tall plants.

  6. Thanks for all the advice guys, im guessing supercropping is ok to do when there are already buds growing, as everyone has reccommended it?
Heres a pic, note, the largest ones have already been LSTed down to where all the other tops are sitting.

  7. stretch is minimized for low fluctuations of lights on lights off temps.

Don't feel bad. I know pro growers in NorCal whom make the same mistakes. It happens when youre not paying attention enough or have new genes. I grow with strong lights and hydro I try to flip earlier than I would think instinctively, especially when I'm unsure of Genetics.

Just try to pull them away from the light. This happened to my homie the first time he grew because he unexpectedly had to get a smaller tent than he wanted. A few of his tops got bad heat /burn issues, but his yield was fat and made up for it.
