Hey GC, I tried searching for an answer and found nothing. If you have a TI domeless nail, where do you put the dab? I usually put the wax on the walls inside the hole in the center. This isnt what I usually see, but it works a lot better for me than putting it in the lower dish. Another question, has anybody used multiple nails and saw that one has given off more reclaim than another? I have a reclaim catcher and while using a quartz banger I got no reclaim, as opposed to the TI domeless where I quickly started to get a lot. If I dab in the dish instead of the hole, will I still get reclaim? I also use a carb cap, will that make any difference? Thanks in advance for any help
You are building stupid amounts of reclaim because you aren't smoking any of it. You are sucking the oil right into your rig. Sent from my SM-G900P using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Not exactly true. While using my banger, I got the full hit and always carb capped it. Now, with the same size dabs, I'll get the same size hit only if I put it in the center of the ti nail. I'm definitely getting reclaim from it, but I'm not /not/ smoking any of it. When I try putting it in the dish it just slides off my dabber and leaves a puddle. The hit is small, if not nothing at all, carb cap or not. After experimenting, I've found that I can only get a full hit if its a red hot dab in the dish or if its a low temp one in the center. I prefer low temp dabs, so of course the latter is preferable. I'm assuming the only thing I'm losing is the wax thatll drip directly into the catcher, since it cant be carb capped if its no longer on the nail. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Just tryna figure out what exactly I'm doing wrong here haha Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
100% of what's in the reclaim catcher is from the ti nail. What's in the actual rig is cooled down vapor from the banger. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
You're an idiot.... i wont even try t help anymore since you are just disregarding my actual advice that is right. You are sucking it right int your right. Learn how tl use a nail, because we are all laughing at you Sent from my SM-G900P using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Cheeez. Dude he's just trying to learn how to do it right. Help him out. Only reason I'm on here is to learn, and I've been consuming since 1960. You may know everything about it, but a lot of us don't know as much. If you don't want to help out, tell us where to find out and we won't bother you. I tried to get help with seasoning a nail once. Where were you then? No one ever helped me season that nail. I had to figure it out myself. I thought the idea behind these forums was to spread the knowledge. Doc I'm not trying to spread hate and discontent, just trying to spread knowledge. >>>Don't take offence.<<<
First what brand of nail is that? The color looks off. You sure it's ti? Are you heating it evenly?? Maybe you are letting it cool too much? Ti cools much faster than quartz. Also a banger has the tube part to collect the claim where the ti nail goes straight into the claim catcher. Is it getting you high off the ti?
You didn't actually give me any advice. Thanks for being a dick on my post, though. Your help is no longer needed. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
The color might look a bit off because of flash and cuz it wasnt evenly heated, the last time I torched it was just from the top. I trust that it's Ti, not sure of the brand but I got it from a good smoke shop so I wasnt too worried. I'm definitely getting high, thats not the problem at all, but I guess I just misunderstood. I thought quartz cooled faster, and I'm definitely letting the nails cool for around the same amount of time, if not more time for the ti. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Here is what I do when I use my Ti, which is on the daily btw. It's ancient and I have had it for a few years so I know it well. I get my torch on one side of the Ti nail until it is glowing red hot on that side. It takes about 15 seconds or so. Then I count to ten like "one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi" etc, etc. then I take my dab tool with a preloaded dab on the point of the tool and slowly touch it to the inside of the side that I was blasting the torch on. I keep on hitting for 5 seconds or so after the dab is gone from th end of the dab tool to collect what's left of the dab as the temp lowers. Even then there is just the slightest wisp of vapor as I back off from the rig. I count to 5 or so and exhale. Rinse, repeat, $! As far as dropping my loaded dab tool into the hole / stem of the domeless Ti itself, yes I have done just that. Kind of like a nectar collected in a very basic, ghetto kind of way. Here is my take on what happens and why it is NOT a good idea. When you touch a dab to the side of the domeless nail, it allows air to mix thoroughly with the vapor of the wax you're hitting. There is room for the air and wax to do this properly. Where as in the confined space of that narrow downstem the vapor stays condensed. That causes it to cool into larger particles with in the water. You end up with more of the concentrate into the water in the form of reclaim. I found this to be the truth because the water was far more "dirty" in between the time I Normaly change the water. If you have ever hit really oily water you will know what I mean. It's viscous, it's colored or tinged yellow to orange and it does a piss poor job of cooling the dab you're vaping through the rig. It tastes off, you choke and you cough. That's my personal experience though so your own mileage may vary. When I first started dabbing a number of years ago, my bro had a rig where the nail was a Ti tube about a 1/4" in diameter, four or five inches long and was coiled like a pigs tail. You got it red hot, counted to 5, inserted the dab tool into the end of the tube and hit it. It worked fucking great for what it was. But in the end, it was a bit rough and harsh. I think it was because the vapor that's created doesn't get enough oxygen mixed and it is just a little to thick. Who knows though broski,......I'm a mother trucking stoner! Good luck man
Yes this may be your problem. Your letting it cool too much. I heat the moat evenly till the center tube starts to glow red. Then I wait about 10 secs. Run the loaded dab tool all around the moat then cap it. When done right it won't start producing much vapor till its capped. Lately I just hold my hand above it till it feels right then dab it.
Did this and it worked great! Only problem is instead of dripping into the dish, it drips up (maybe from pressing it against the wall???) the dabber so the dabs are smaller than they should be. Ever have this problem? Yeah, it was definitely the problem. I've still got some experimenting to do with the temps, but for the most part I figured it out. Thank you guys! I think that's happening after you set your tool down, not during the actual dab. I am not a fan of that tool shape. Too much surface area.
I ran a stainless steel wire through carb cap hole. Put oil on end of wire, and put cap over nail, no vapor loss
I'm not worried about whats lost, just a minor inconvenience. I can see why someone wouldnt like this shape. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I use a stainless steel dental tool and I don't touch the tool to the Ti domeless if I can help it. Also, I do have a tool like that and it doesn't matter the tool or how it's shaped really, that just happens. It's something to do with the property of heat energy moving through a conductive material. Li,e using flux when you solder and the like. When it happens, I just scrape it against the top flat edge of the nail and most of the excess comes off. It gives a beefy dab and there is little loss. You could also warm the tool with a lighter and wipe the excess oil on the out side of a doobie. That works pretty well too as long as you don't pack the doobie to tight. Now that I have a system down, I don't even need a carb cap. There is still the lightest wisp of vapor I don't get at the end, but it lets me know I'm in the ball park as far as temps go.
