How to properly do DWC??? Help me please

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by YvngStonie, Sep 3, 2023.

  1. So I have a 5 gallon DWC bucket that’s already black, 8 inch net up, I’m using hydro ton as my medium. I transferred the plant from soil to DWC. The temps are now 75° and. 40-50% rh. The light is a 100watt grow light in a 2x2 tent. There’s a small 4 inch inline duct fan. I’m using Fox farms trio with hydro big grow instead of soil big grow. As well as Bushdoctor calmag. 60ml of big bloom, 30ml of grow big, and 20ml of calmag. There is around 4 gallons of water. The water line is just below the net pot about maybe a quarter of an inch to a half inch. I have a submersible pump to keep the nutrients and the water circulating, also have an air pump but no airstone (is it actually needed). And she’s still dying. Can you guys please help me. I wanna learn hydro so I can be less messy in the grow room.

  2. A pic would help.
    How old is the plant?
What is the temp of your reservoir?
    What is your pH?
Are the roots in the res?
Do you check the pH daily?

  3. Hello, Thankyou for taking some time out to try to help me and my plant.
So first you asked for a picture, it is the only one in a bucket lol:
Hopefully it works as I’ve never posted a picture on here.
But secondly she is in rooting /week1 of veg.
3rd, the temp I believe to be around 68°.
4th, the oh is at 6.9.
5, there were roots in the red but the sorta like dell of and I have a more dense bunch of smaller ones.
6, I do check it daily. I’ve been seeing it just up 2ph everyday and I have to keep getting it back down and I don’t know why it’s happening.

  4. First of all, your pH should be 5.5 - 5.8..........6.9 is way too high for hydroponics.
Never start your plants in soil if you plan on doing DWC..........rapid rooters (my choice) or rockwool work best.
Top feed for the first couple of weeks until the roots are well established in the reservoir.
All you need is an air pump with an airstone.......yes an airstone is necessary.........it produces tiny air bubbles.
Did you rinse your hydroton before using? Without rinsing and conditioning will cause the pH to rise.
I would fill the net pot with hydroton to cover the stems and help support it.
I have never used your nutes, so I can't comment on them.
    Hope that helped.

  5. so Thankyou for that. I meant to say 5.9 not 6.9. And I will have to order a bubbleponics top feed system somewhere, idk where so I’ll have to do some research. I will get the air stoned today, was thinking about getting the 5” one. And I did treat the hydro ton, well I cleaned it with normal distilled water 2x, then boiled it for 30 minutes, then rinsed again.

  6. What's your light setup
