I should be legally able to start growing again in about a week. I'm thinking about starting my own personal breeding program. I'm really interested in making a strain, but I'm more interested in starting from old school genetics. Love them, or hate them, the strain hunters idea of obtaining original source genetics is an interesting one. Now obviously I don't have the funds to travel the world and smuggle old genetics out of each country. I really like it every now and then when I get to read a forum, where someone found an old seed from 35 years ago. I think it would be cool to work with genetics that aren't so diverse as today's strains. I just have no idea where source these seeds. I have a connection to somebody in Jamaica who can get me seeds from outdoor grows, but most of the local strange have been crossed bread with Dutch genetics or some other seed company's stock. It's really hard to find lambs breath for example, and know that it's just lambs breath. I'm not sure that I can get a solid answers on how to obtain seeds that are verifiable. I know if there is a place it's on these forums through one of our local expert though
I like you am fascinated by landrace genetics. I cannot say that I can verify the purity of the strains I have grown but what I did grow seemed to be some pure landrace shit. People talk a lot of shit about Malberry Seeds/Holy Smoke Seeds but I have grown 5 of their strains and they all seem to be exactly what they were advertised to be. The strains included, Mozambique Poison, Malawi Gold, Bhutanese Thimphu, Nepali Rakum and Afghani Peshawar. They were pure Sativa with needle like thin fan leaves and 16-24 week flower times. Smoke was unlike anything I have smoked before. Also, Ace Seeds/Cannabiogen both collaborate with each other creating amazing pure genetics both Sativa/Indica. I would give them a look as well.
Id say watch "strain hunters" on youtube. These guys spend a shitload of money going around the world getting landraces. Unless you pick it yourself and have a background in breeding, genetic strains, etc, i think it will be virtually impossible at this point. A lot of the strains they find in the middle of nowhere in africa were ordered offline and are not landrace seeds anymore. The guy also takes one of his expert growers with him. Think about how many people probably have seeds from the 70s layin around in basements, atticts and garages in america...haha Theres a website in oregon that claims to sell 70s seeds. Pretty fair prices too.
http://www.strainhunters.com/ Also try World of Seeds or Ace Seeds for minimally bred landrace varieties. PW
Oh yeah, the World of Seeds landrace is not pure but it is still real good. I tried out their Kilimanjaro, a really nice plant. Also take a look at Seedsman. I got some Mama Thai seedlings going at the moment.
I would look up the term of what a land race is technically landraces can be found in your local neighbor llol
