Clean it regularly and change the water. You can really tell the difference between people who take care of there glass and those who don't. If it looks dirty I'd ask him to clean it before you buy it, that way you can start fresh with your bong maintenance.

Definitely go with what magnus said. Keep some simple green or 91 percent rubbing alcohol in the house and make sure to clean it before it starts to get nasty. Make sure when you empty it you get most of the water out. If any spills in your backpack or room it will smell pretty nasty, regardless of how fresh or old it is.

That's disgusting. Make sure he makes it spotless before selling it to you, it is very possible with some bong cleaner. My cleaner of choice is orange chronic.

thing is the bong will smell sooner or later, at which point youve gotta clean it again. something that i can think of is rezblock, check it out...other than turning your bongwater red/pink, ive heard its effective at reducing resin in the water and areas touching the water. the rest of the passageways in the bong and in spots where its not touching water, they will still get dirty...check it out.
