How to get wiring out of a grow cab?

  1. Hey everyone,

I have a potentially stupid question haha.

I’m in the process of designing a grow cabinet. I’m going down the ikea pax wardrobe route.

I feel almost ready to start buying supplies, but one question I can’t find an answer to is how people get the wiring out of the grow cab while also maintaining a light/air/dust seal etc.

My plan is to put a digital power strip inside the cabinet and drill a hole in the back so I can get the wire out.

What’s the best way of filling that hole while maintaining the light/air/dust seal? Or is there a better way?

If such a solution exists, I’d love for it to be semipermanent; I’d like to be able to completely remove the power strip if the cabinet ever needs to be packed down.

Thanks in advance for any advice to my noob question!

  2. drill it, poke the plug through the hole, then caulk the cord with anything except clear.
this would be semi-perminant, if it needs removed you can carefully cut the caulking and pull the wire out.

or...... snake the cord through the air intake.

post some pics of the wardrobe, inside and out if you can.!

  3. Thank you for your reply!

After doing a little more research, I was thinking maybe a brushed desk grommet may work. Something like this: Google Image Result for https://shoplineimg.com/572ff0a20390559d5e000075/574e78c761706910fb660400/400x.jpg

Looks like it could restrict light and dust/bugs while providing a little extra passive intake.

What do you think? If there’s some obvious downside I’m just not seeing, I’ll definitely go the caulking route.

I’ll absolutely post pictures when I’m in the process of building it! :)

  5. I am a "McGiver" type of guy too, I made a few micro cabinets in my day but you really should consider a grow tent, I suspect you can have a grow tent to your door in 2-3days for less than you will have in you ikea project, I now use a couple for starting plants, clones etc. last 4x4x5ft tent cost me $56 I am amazed how well it functions

  7. I don't mean to be wet blanket but I've somewhat went thru your route and I ended up buying a grow tent. It's much worth the investment.

But if you're really keen in building your grow cab, I'd suggest to have a cable tube/cable tidy wrap/cable organizer to get all your cables together and through the hole you've drilled. Then patch the remaining space with aluminium tape or white/silver tape by wrapping around the cable organizer then to the surrounding of the hole.

  8. Not at all!

I would prefer grow tent too, but I need something super stealthy. Plus, I currently don't have the room for anything too big.

Long term, I have plans to set up a small grow room where tents would be much more feasible but wanted to try my hand a smaller build and grow first.

I was absolutely planning on having everything cable managed, too. I really want this to be as well built and presented as possible.

    Thanks for your advice! :)
