Okay, so my new gym kinda sucks. They only have machines and dumbbells. So I'm doing the same routines, but with dumbbells. I'm following the Starting Strength program, so I squat, bench, deadlift etc. I just subsitute the goblet squat for barbell squat, and use dumbells to bench, military press, row. I'm kinda confused on how to mantain good form when deadlifting. Whenver I bend down for the lift, back seems to bend forward. Deadlifting with barbells just seems easier way to mantain form. There is a smith machine in the gym, but I stay away from it, I've read that it's better to use barbells/dumbbells/free weights over machines.
I know this isn't that helpful, but i would suggest getting a membership at a different gym or buying your own weights and power rack (can be reasonable if you buy used). What kind of gym doesn't have barbells????
It's the gym at my housing community thing. The type of gym soccer moms go to. I don't think I have enough money to get another membership, and this one is free right now. If I get Enugu cash for a year, Im out I'd this gym.
You say there are machines there. Is there that one with the two handles on either side that people usually use for shrugs? Because they can be used for squats and deadlifts too, but people generally don't realise it.
I hope you aren't paying more than 10 dollars a month for a gym that doesn't have a bench press. I mean...no barbells? WTF? That's like 60% of your workout...squats, bench, deadlift...what kind of gym doesn't have the single most important thing. I wouldn't call that a gym, man..I'd call it a building that with dumbells.
There's a Smith Machine, which is basically a barbell connected to a machine and has stabilizing cord. In essence, it's a barbell which does half the lift for you. I've read that you don't gain as much on machines as opposed to barbells/free weights
Nah a smith machine is no good for deadlifts, but you can use it for squats in case you were looking for something along those lines. The machine in question I don't know the name of... But it's low down, puts weight on either side of you (kinda like a U shape with you in the U) then you put your hands on the top of either branch of the U and lift it up like that. You can do squats, deadlifts and shrugs with it.
lol.... we have a local gym that offers the same stuff without barbells but all equipment can be used for free
I went to this new gym the other day and they were actually restricting my use of certain equipment such as kettlebells and elliptical because I was not with a personal trainer. I was blown away; got a refund and left. Sent from my SM-J120W using Grasscity Forum mobile app
