How the American Right Learned to Love Moscow in the Era of Trump

  1. The examples of far-right Americans praising the Kremlin are as myriad as they are obvious. For Richard Spencer, the coiner of the term “Alt-Right” and a leader of the emerging white nationalist faction it represents, Russia is both the “sole” and “most powerful white power in the world.” Matthew Heimbach, head of the white nationalist Traditionalist Worker Party—and someone who, like Spencer, desires the creation of a whites-only nation-state within the U.S.—believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is the “leader of the free world,” one who has helped morph Russia into an “axis for nationalists.” Harold Covington, the white supremacist head of the secessionist Northwest Front, recently described Russia as the “last great White empire.” And former Ku Klux Klan Imperial Wizard David Duke has said he believes Russia holds the “key to white survival.”

  4. Maybe they're hoping Putin will invade Poland and give to Trump and his white nationalists. to ensure the survival of the American white male?

  5. I think ww2 is still very fresh in many Russian's minds. Although the generation that fought the Nazis is nearly gone, many families have been closely involved with the events of the war as millions of lives were lost during ww2 and Stalin's concentration camps.
The "victory day", may 9th is one of the biggest in the former Soviet Union and Russia specifically.

There's no love for Nazis in Russia (of course things are changing and there are idiots everywhere), but the messaging of alt right doesn't resonate with the Russian people. They may have other views which overlap... But alt right was quickly disposed of, when they tried to move their nazi loving site to the Russian hosting (as a recent example).

  6. I agree, the resentment is still there. When you are Putin that runs a totalitarian regime, he wouldn't support any type of government unless there was something in it.for him. The Alt Right as far as Putin is concerned is a tool to be used to further divide our country.

  7. My worry is that a free floating hate group(s) could be latched onto by some troubled nation for its own political and economic needs. Humans are never too far or far enough from that ignoble potential.

    Isn't that how it goes.

  8. They'll have to get past Trump first. lol

  11. Putin was the one that chose the Alt-Right. Maybe you should email and ask him.

  19. Do you really think Mother Jones is like an Alex Jones of the left? While MJ is very leftist, they've never struck me as being liars and lunatics.
