How Should I Lower PH?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Prophis, Dec 7, 2010.

  1. Using only organic fox farm soil (ocean forest mix) and Good water that is at a PH of 7. I noticed some slight issues, and found my PH Tester is showing the soil between 7.7 & 8 - which is to high.

I'm looking for input on the best way to go about Lowering my PH down to a 7 - 6.5?

  2. whats the volume of soil. I just used peat moss as an additive works swimmingly

  3. Kewl. Worked for ya huh?

Are you using one of those soil pH testers with the prongs?

They are worse than useless because they are so inaccurate.

The reason I ask is, FFOF is usually on the acidic side, not alkaline.

If it really is high, Garden Sulfur, will lower pH.

I actually AM using one of those prong testers for PH, but it seems a little inconsistent. Im going to get a different PH tester to try and confirm the issue, Because that's what i've gathered about this soil too- That it's usually pretty good, or slightly acidic.

I'll let you know what the results are soon

  6. I've never had Foxfarms soil be above 6.0 so your ph meter must be off. I even stopped using foxfarms because I got tired of their low ph problems. Next time mix some dolomite lime in to buffer the ph

  7. So far, so great.

  8. Hey guys:

Just my 2 cents, but those pronged pH testers are shit. So are the other testers with the prod on a wire. I was using one until this last year -- it read about 6.5 pH (what I was after). When I used a real pH tester, the soil was a tick over 4.5! No wonder the girls were sickly.

I got one of those nice testers, with the big prod and a dial-like reader from China -- looks like the expensive ones on eBay, but was about 1/2 the cost. It works, period. It really works so when you're tired of guessing and messing up plants get one. I wish I'd have got one years ago, it would've saved many plants and gotten better yields, too.

I've used cottonseed meal and garden gypsum to lower pH. Bloodmeal will work, too as will coffee grounds, but use them carefully as they are really easy to overdo it with. You could try some vinegar in your water, too.
