how much wattage?

  1. how much wattage to grow my plants? I have a 20watt 14k spectrum, a 15watt 10k spevtrum, a 15watt blue spectrum think its like 20k? and a white 45 watt 8k? spectrum. is this enough? also im growing in my garage where its FREEZING so i wont need a fan? because the soil is not burning or whatever?

  2. You have a lot of reading to do. Check the grow guides and sticky posts.

Your spectrum information doesn't make sense to me. If those are supposed to be Kelvin temps then they are way too low. If they are supposed to be wavelength measurements then I don't know what they mean, wavelenths are measured in nanometers.

You need to tell us more about what kind of lights, but no matter how you look at it the total 95 watts almost certainly is too low. Keep in mind wattage is a measure of electricity consumption, what you are concerned about is light output. Some lights are better than others at converting consumed electricity into light, so you can't really go by wattage alone.

Fans are needed for more than controlling temps, they are necessary for fresh air circulation. If your space is freezing then your plants will not survive.

  3. 14k = 14000 (the light color) like 14 is orange white 20k is blue 10k is white 8k is sun white

  4. If your garage is freezing, than you won't need a fan, you'll need heat. Enough heat to keep the temperatures around 80 during the day, and around 70 at night. Usually an hps will put out enough light, and heat to satisfy your plants needs, but I'm assuming you're using fluorescents. They will barely put out the light you need (like toasty said the numbers are a bit hard to read) and they certaintly won't provide enough heat. What are some more of the specs on your grow? (i.e. cabinet size (if any), actual room temps, etc.........)

  5. Yah i have a space heater on it at night keeps it at 70-75. durring the day definitly 80-90 prolly 84-87. I have a heat lamp 100watt i use to use for a turtle back in the day. would this help at all?

  6. haha no the lamp won't help at all as far as lighting goes, turtles are pretty sweet though :)

  7. yah it was a huge ass box turtle, pure white it was awesome i loved that little guy. if the ballast says maximum 25watt can i put a 50in or will it kill it? mnaybe i can up it just another 100watts maybe put each light on an extra 25-50watts?

  8. Any way you could just order a light meant for growing off the interent? You can't run lights in a ballast that's specified for half the wattage. If it even works, it could be a hazrd in your home......

  9. Can you give me the name of a light brand that i can get for under 15 dollars and one under 30 dollars? thank you guys!!

  10. dont know if your interested but i have a 150watt hps system i dont use no more. If you want to buy it, i'll let it go for a good price. pm me if your interested

  11. Your color temps are way off. Your color temps should be between 2700k and 6800k. Anything else is non-visible pretty much haha.

  12. Can you give me the name of a light brand that i can get for under 15 dollars and one under 30 dollars? thank you guys!!

  13. For those prices you are looking at fluoros, probably CFLs. For veg spectrum get CFLs that say "daylight" or "cool white" and for flower get CFLs that say "soft white" or "warm white."

Most any brand will do. A package of 2 or 3 low-wattage CFLs will run around $7-10 at Wally World, Home Depot, etc. Get a bunch of those.

And yeah, your light color info on the bulbs you have still doesn't sound right.
