It seems like my plants are getting closer and closer to harvest. I was wondering how much longer you all think I'm going to need to wait. And yes, I realize my plants are in very rough shape (one of them looks like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree). Please don't poke too much fun of them lol. If there is any usable bud I will be happy since this is my first grow. First plant - AK-48 Auto-flower, sprouted on 9/26 (in absolute terrible condition) Second plant - Critical Auto-flower, sprouted on 9/27 (in slightly better condition)
I'd chop the first one, and give the other another week. Or chop 'em both. Either way, nice job on your first grow.
Thanks for the quick response . I wasn't sure if the first one was ready because it is so damaged that I couldn't tell if the stigmas were amber/ brown because of maturity or damage . Some of the colas are still comprised of a majority of white stigmas. Should I cut around those and let them continue growing?
It won't do much growing without leaves, and you're already at 9 weeks. At this point it makes more sense to chop and get started on round 2.
Makes sense. I have started round two already. It is going much better now that I know to PH the water and use soil with better drainage lol.
yeah you may as well chop them down since there is no leaf left. you can let them sit in the dark for 48hrs to bring out the last drop of THC before harvesting. i would try to figure out your mistakes that have got you to this point. it looks like you have made a few along the way. possibly too much nutrients? bad dirt? bad water? i would start with a good cheap soil such as Fox Farm or pro-mix/sunshine mix. then i would use filtered water with calmag added. make sure to start out growing in a 1qt pots and then on week 2 or 3, transplant into 3 to 5 gallon containers. i would only feed nutes once a week to start and no more than once every 5 or 6 days. you will need at least 100w to 150w of light per plant. HID lighting is my preference but there are many quality LED lights available as well. just learn from your mistakes and you will find what works best for you.
Mistakes were definitely made. I didn't PH my water until about a month in. I didn't start using nutrients until the plants were already flowering, and I gave them too much too fast. I did use FFOF, though, but didn't mix any perlite with it. I used one container (3 gallons) throughout the entire grow. And my lighting definitely could have been better.
if more than 50% of your hairs have receded and turned red, than it should be ready to harvest. it looks like you are right on the border of that and about half of your hairs are still white.
Check the trichomes out, I like mine more amber than milky but everyone has different preferences. Use a jewelers loupe to feet a good look. The trick is timing the end of your flush perfectly with when tris are ready.
The trichomes seem to be a combination of milky and clear. I don't see any that are amber yet. Should I stop feeding the plant nutrients at this point?
I’ve never heard anything about the stigmas telling you it’s ready to harvest. The trichromes are how you tell the flowers are ripe. As mentioned above grab a jewelers loupe and it’ll tell you what you need to know. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Personally I’d wait until you see some amber tris. I generally wait until there’s about 30% amber and the rest milky then I start my flush.
Not sure about 30% amber trichomes but I do see a few of them on some of the colas. Main cola has a lot of dark stigmas at this point. I'm hoping I'm only a few days away from harvest at this point. I'll be keeping an eye on the trichomes.
Looks good. I’d say she’s only got another few days if that. Always remember when it comes to weed harvesting early vs late is WAY better. Don’t wanna risk mold or bacteria. Oh and does ur plant move around? Looks like she was in the middle taking a shit in one photo. The next she’s chillin in the kitchen.
