  1. i saw a 70w hps ant lowes and took it out if the box to look at it and the part that the bulb screws into says 660w

    wtf?

is this usin that much plus the 70w bulb!?

    some insight would be appreciated

  2. this is simple man.. a 70w hps is going to be very small.. like a normal household light and a 660w would be much bigger... like it would fit inside of a pringles can..

  3. maybe im too high to comprehend but i dont think that answers my question.

why would it say 660w? its a street lamp btw, dunno if thats important.

  4. the socket assembly is rated at that not the bulb itself.

  5. so could i put a 100w bulb in it if it were the same size?

also, to make it clear, it does NOT use 660w to actually work?

  6. the 660w just means that is the max amount of watts the socket should use.

  7. If the light is a 70w HPS, then that's all you can put in it! Don't try anything else! It says 660w on the socket where the bulb screws into right? That is the manufacturers rating for the socket. Not the entire fixture! All that means is if someone was to buy the socket by itself and make their own fixture, that's the largest wattage bulb you can put in it.

  8. that clears it up! thanks
