How many watts can a average house run?

  1. Ive been thinking about renting out a house to do a grow but since there will be a lease i wont be able to alter the houses original electricity set-up in any way. How many watts can a house usually run without tripping breakers like no tommorow?
Im thinking im going to need to setup all the rooms to evenly distribute the electricity usage. Do you guys think a 1000W per breaker sounds about right?

  2. I go by amps never more than 25 per socket or breaker. Every electrical device shows how many amps it uses. My 600w is 5 amps. I hope this gives you an idea.

Most household outlets are 15amps. 1800watts is exactly 15amps. It's a good rule of thumb to only load a circuit to %80 of capacity, so on a 15amp circuit I wouldn't go past 1440watts. Your question "How many watts can a average house run?" all depends on the house. Most houses will have a 100amp service, but ive seen many houses with 200amp service. Lets take 100 amps just as an example.

    100amps X 120v = 12000watts running at %100

    12000 X .8 = 9600watts (%80 of max capacity)

I personally wouldn't load a 100amp house with more than 9600 total watts of electricity. If you wanted to get more watts out of if, you would have to buy all your equipment to be able to run at 240V

    100amps X 240v = 24000 watts, double the amount possible at 120v.
    24000 X .8 = 19200watts running at %80

If you have another electrical questions hit up the link on my signature bellow, remember safety first. Peace :smoke:

  4. How are your breakers not tripping when your running 10amps over the limit? The standard breaker size for an outlet is 15amps.

  5. AntonRough if your thinking huge comercial scale, generators will be your best friend..peace designerz

  6. Im thinking a 10K grow.. Generators are loud and noisy though.. :/

Oh fuk ya only 10k your fine, I know buddy above did all the more precise calculations but i think to sum it up for a 120v household ...120v x 15amps 1800watts per recepticle

  8. True, i feel like even though im renting this place it is a house, the utility bills would go straight to me and always be payed on time, along with the rent. Im only trying to pull off maybe 2 harvests also..

  9. Sounds pretty sketchy to me, hope everything works out well for you.
