How Many CFLs are TOO much?

    I was talking with my friend about designing a new light with my CFLs. Currently, we have 6 bulbs pumping out 218 watts. I wanted to design something that will double our wattage and amount of bulbs (or get higher wattage bulbs). Anyway he said how many lights do we actually need? He though that I was ok with the 5 plants and the 218 watts of light. I think i should double the wattage. What is everyones thoughts?

    I'm not sure that there is such a thing as too many CFLs. Add up the lumens and compare to a typical HID.

    I just got a 400w HPS with ballast, batwing reflector and 400w bulb for $140 WITH shipping. I'm telling ya...CFL's are great for vegging but get a month into flower with CFL's and tell me how much you want an HPS :D

    How do you figure you have 218w? 42w cfl + 42w cfl = 42w that is distributed better.
