I think the potency loss is 15-20% per year. So at the end of 5 or 6 years your smoking lawn clippings.

About 7 to 8 years ago, I smoked this BOMB joint and it knocked me out so far it scared me. The next day, feeling emboldened, I asked the guy who had the stuff if he would give me a joint. He did but then I was too scared to use it. It sat in a metal box for all those years.

Recently I began smoking again in earnest and I remembered that joint that was so powerful. I got it out, smoked it and got almost NOTHING from it! So it's true, cannabis loses more than 10% of it's potency every year. That beautiful pot had lost almost all of it's original potency. Moral of the story is, use it or lose it!

 

It depends a lot on how it is stored. Heat, light, oxygen and moisture levels can all affect how fast cannabis degrades.

well that's a good information !

 

I found a stash over a year old and it was fine. It was in a glass jar, in a dark, cool closet.

 

My friend and I taped a gram of good bud behind his wall calender and we waited 365 days to smoke it.

Tasted nasty as hell, but we felt it was just as strong as when fresh. If the potency detoriated, it wasn't much. I'm sure it'll keep better in a freezer as long as you've vacuum packed it well.

 

When I get home from the dispensary my stuff goes in a mason jar and labeled with the strain, date, and potency. Twice a day for a month I gently rotate the jars and open them for about 20 minutes, After about a month I drop in one of those humidity control packs (55%). Dark, cool storage.

I do have to be careful not to buy too much, but they just had some nice Green Crack on sale, and yesterday I got an oz of Golden Goat (28.3%) for cheap. Right now I'm smoking some Holy Roller from last March, it's starting to taste old but still quite nice. My Super Lemon Haze from May still tastes like Super Lemon Haze.

I am considering a getting a vacuum sealer and a new freezer so I can take advantage of sale prices and when they have my favorite strains. My current freezer is too small anyway.
