Hey everyone! I’m currently at day 60 of these Pink Kush plants (Barney’s Farm). I checked the trichomes and they’re mostly cloudy. They barely have any clear trichomes but the buds keep pushing out new pistils. Do you think she’ll be ready within 10 days? I’m looking for some amber trichomes. set up: 4x4/ 600 watt hps/ Advanced nutrients bloom A&B, Big Bud, Overdrive,Bud candy, Bud factor X/ coco coir 15 liters pots.
Nice looking buds, but I tend to go by the trichomes, do you have any closer pics? I've got some plants in various stages of flower atm, below are some Bruce banners that have plenty of trichs, but they are still empty, so they need longer imo. Meanwhile, the Gelato plants (which have always had a pretty short 7-8 week flower for me) are getting much closer to harvest, with plenty of milky trichs and a fair % of brown ones (I tend to cut when its about 30% browns, some people like 10%, some people let it go 50% plus brown / amber) The problem is, most research seems to suggest (and I tend to agree with it) that different parts of the plant "ripen" at different times, nice top colas may look fantastic, but anything lower in the canopy or the larf might still be empty like the top pic. I know people will try to mitigate this by harvesting the plants in "sections" but I can't really speak to that, as tbh I'm too lazy for all that and subsequently have not yet tried that method. However if you wait for the larf to "ripen" you may let the tops go too long or vice versa. Its a balancing act and within a general range, I think mostly grower's preference imo, you check around the plant and when you think you are going to get the largest number of good buds you harvest (there will also be some trichs that don't fill, or some buds that just outperform others due to any number of genetic or environmental factors.) Best of luck mate, hope this was of use.
Hey man! Thanks for the input, I believe my buds are about 80% milky if not more (matte color). I can barely see any clear trichomes. I do see new pistils popping out which is irritating considering indicas flower faster. I will try to get trichome pics with the magnifier soon. Based on that description of 80% milky how long do you think it’ll take for them to turn amber? Also, I have lollipopped and trained these plants so the lower bud sites are mature as well like rocks.
It can depend on a lot mate, I've had grows of the same strain using same conditions, mediums etc come up "ripe" to me as much as 10-14 days apart. Typically once you find the first amber or brown ones, it can take 1-3 weeks more for them to reach 30%-50% mark. The gelato pic from my prior post, is getting close, in about 5-7 more days I'll check it again, and then start checking every other day or so until I think its where I want, typically takes another week. The empty banners I'll still check like every 10 days, or if I see enough pistils turn orange and recede I'll check it earlier. If it helps here is a larger view of the plants the close ups came from, the banner's are generally on the left side with the smaller buds (and empty trichs) The gelatos on the left you can see are starting to get chunky and the trichs are pretty full, but from past grows I know those buds will easily double in size before they are ready to cut. I started this crop right around new years, and after 4.5 months, I'm fine with waiting a few weeks more to really max out the harvest, but that's just a matter of scale, and I run multiple plants, so waiting a little longer can make a big difference in yield over numerous plants. Its less important imo when you just have a few. Also, I have a fairly large crew of what I like to call "Towelies" who often come over to hang out and bum free bud, so I always have a use for larf and trim (more tops to cache away for my private reserve!) Anyway yours are farther along than mine atm, and I'd say you are close, but probably not quite there yet, but I'd hesitate to allocate a lot of confidence in that without seeing how the trichs are doing (make sure to check tops vs bottoms of your largest buds, vs the frost on sugar leaves, vs other various sites on each plant and kind of make an assessment that "yeah, I think this is about as good as its gonna get".
That’s a dope looking set up wow. I always wanted a huge grow room but my gf would kill me if I threw out her closet for more space I guess mine are farther along, although they keep pushing out white pistils. I know it’s not stress related or anything, I think they just need 2 more weeks to bulk up properly. I also see you had a 4x4 before correct? Do you have any tips on how many plants I can fit in there with SCROG? Currently did 3 plants in 15 liters and I felt it was too much.
It took about 3 years of leaning on the wife to get to this point. I started with a 2x2x4 tent and Mars hydro TS-1000 light, and literally grew from there. I then stepped up to 4x4x6 then a 4x8x8H tent (the extra 2 feet in height is fantastic for light clearance or if you a tall person over 6 feet like myself. This is my first grow in an 8x8x7H tent, I'm liking it. I'll freely admit I haven't learned exactly why yet, but its not uncommon for me when I think its "harvest time" to see that some buds will have new white pistils (though overall mostly reddish / brown), or even seeing new bud sites try to emerge that late in the game) Thats why I started going by trichs and do the best I can, I'm not going to let multiple ounces of choice colas get to browned up just to crop another 1/2oz of larf, or wait until everything looks perfect (spoiler alert, the plants never look perfect, at least not mine lol) with regards to # of plants scrogg'ed in a 4x4 tent So here has been my experience in the 4x4s. If you are going to grow photoperiod plants, I'd say 3 is about the sweet spot (assuming at least a 4 week and maybe 6 week veg), 5 gallon (approx 20 liter) fabric pots seen to work fine, although 7 gallon pots also work well. If you are topping and screening, 3 plants will usually not totally fill out the area, but all the good spots on the light will be covered (depends on the light, if it only puts out 600 umol /s or so at the outer edges, its not going to be a lot of bud from those sites, so IMO its better to try for like a 3.5x3.5 canopy in a 4x4, just try to keep all your canopy in a range where you can get 800+ umol/s or more on the majority of it. Heres 3 plants just before harvest scrogged in a 4x4 net, still a bit of room for a 4th, but I also could easily have let them veg a little longer and had 3 plants cover most of the area. Also, things would be getting pretty tight at 4 plants Autos are a little different, if you just maybe do some training and 4-6 branches, 4 autos is a little tight, but definitely doable in a 4x4, if you plan to top the spread the autos its going to be strain dependent, but you might have to scale back to 3 plants. Heres 2 "natural" grown plants (minimal pruning and training) almost done in a 4x4 net area, as you can see 4 plants would be doable Looking good though mate, hit me up in any of my journals or a DM if anything pops up. Not saying I'm a pro, but I'm happy to share what I know (or at least shit that happened to my plants and why I suspect it might have happened, what I don't know about growing could still fill a 40x100 greenhouse)
I just took a full video of the plants. I’m currently on day 63 of flowering. You think 2 more weeks would be beneficial? I just took a video of the entire plant, I’ll attach the link below. Do you think she’ll benefit if I give her another 2 weeks. video url: Removed - ICGreen
Dude that is some great info, you’re like Weedkypedia lol. I’ll definitely be trying out 4 plants in 15 liters. I think three was a bit tight for me as I didn’t scrog this time just some light tying down and LST. Next grow should be much better though. I also think of expanding my grow room to a 8X8 someday as I’m also interested in growing carnivorous plants lol. I just took a video of the entire plants, based off that vid you think 2 more weeks is suitable for them? video link: Removed - ICGreen
whatever i said. day 10. snap us more pics close up of the buds and some super closer. Will give more opinions If you see more of the white hairs change colors snap pics that day. You can send pics daily idc ill look at them. Send them ! Show those plants off .
I like that, I might steal it. Seriously though, I just started from like dead 0 knowledge and made many mistakes along the way, so anytime I see someone that is in a similar situation, I try to help out (provided I just roasted a bowl and am sitting in the garaging "airing out" cruising the forums. wife doesn't like me coming in the house reeking of weed, always that random element.)
@tegridyfarmz final note, my gelatos are closing in on harvest, most of the trichs are white, cloudy or filled, just waiting on them to start browning more (I'd say its about 5-10% atm plant wide on the ambers) Here is the bud that shot came off of As you can see, plenty of white pistils too, and in another 10 days or so there may still be some whites left, but I go by the trichs. Also this last 7-10 days is imo when the buds really start to swell and pack on mass, so I always tend to err on the side of waiting longer than cutting sooner. Just from size alone I know this bud can do way better on both mass and frost with another week or 2 (I aim to get my biggest colas to about the size of a thin can like red bull or something, and 6+ inches long) Cheers mate and you look like you'll be reaching harvest day right around the time of these gelatos.
