How long does it usually take for plants to have gender defineing characteristics?

    So my plants are about 4.5 weeks old I checked them yesterday with a 10x lope along the stem to see if i could tell which were males and which were females and i couldn't see any gender defining characteristics. are they just to young or am i looking in the wrong place?

    'Usually' 5-8 weeks from seed, so you are getting close.

    Do you have alternating nodes yet?

    maybe what do alternating nodes look like?

    Where the leaves aren't directly opposite each other, but more like stairs.

    Your lowest/first sets of leaves would be opposites. Alternating comes in 6 sets or so up.
