How long do I need to let a bulb cool to avoid hot cycleing it?

    I have a 600 watt HPS and I need to make an adjustment to the location of the ballast. How long do I need to leave the light off to avoid damaging the bulb and ballast?

    I wait about five min or till my bulb is cool too the touch.

    just wait til the bulb is not hot enough to be uncomfortable when you hold it. My ballast has an automatic timer when it comes unplugged, and it waits exactly that long

    Thanks much guys. I know that my ballast has an auto protection feature but I just wanted to make sure. Everything is reconfigured, rewired, and making my little girls very happy!
