Well the power went off at around 10:30 this morning with the ice storm that hit and it's been about an hour since they've been off. The plants are about a week old and the lights had been on for 3 1/2 hours before losing power and I just want to know how long they can go without needing light? Thanks.
They can go quite a few days - several days without light. I'd say a week max till they start actually feeling it.
One week old seedlings? And it sounds like your vegging light cycle includes a dark period that had finished a few hours before power went out? So assuming you are using 18/6, they've only gotten 3.5 hour light in the past 12 hours...I'd say they need light within 24 hours. Do you have an emergency generator? Always a good idea for a grower. In a pinch, you can plug a power inverter into a car cigarette lighter and then run a couple of CFLs off that juice.
you can get a 800w generator from harbor frieght for about $90. All they really need is probably one single 26watt light to kep them alive.
Power ended up coming back on and thanks for the help and advice guys. And I'll look into getting that generator from Harbor Freight.
