How long after putting into 12/12 do they bud?

I would say you are going to see some action at the nodes and on top about after a week or so.

 

my 2 plants took 12 and 14 days...longer than usual i guess

 

7-14 days is normal. My plant been in 12/12 for 13 days, and has just started to produce noticeable buds today. It's best to count day 1 flowering when u have a cola of white hairs and can notice buds forming.

 

mine just showed the pistels on the nodes for about 2 weeks then they started to fill out on the grow tips nicely, I just finished week 4 and for the last week the buds have really swelled up, and there is already a nice dusting of trichromes, a few hairs are changing at the tips, they still smell like tomato stems and the whole closet just smells like a greenhouse, I guess I'll need to start worring about the smell real soon by the looks of them.

 

Give them 36 hours of darkness before going into 12/12, and they will start flowering sooner.

^^-mu, i did just that over the weekend so i'll post as to how fast they show sex when they do.
also, how long before it shows sex depends on total age of the plant. a 60 day old plant should show faster then, say, a 30 day old plant, correct?

 

Yes, and a clone from a very old mother will show fastest of all, but then, it doesn't matter so much if it's from a mother, you already know the sex. heh.
