In relationship to say, a penny how large are seeds? Can a drug dog sniff out a few seeds? I will be growing indoors, what is an easier strain to grow? I was looking at White Widow, is that too much for a beginner? Thanks for helping me with my first post here.
They are about the size of a peppercorn if not a little smaller. I'm not sure at all about the drug dog question. I would imagine not, but definitely don't take my word for it and get busted! As for a strain, I would say Northern Lights! I'm growing Nirvana's northern lights right now and it's awesome! It has very little odor while growing, it is very hardy and difficult to kill (check out the start of my journal), it stays fairly short, and has gigantic yields in relation to the size of the plant! White Widow gets a bit tall as far as I know, is really stinky, and will probably be a bit more sensitive to newbie mistakes.
Either you are jumping the gun on growing or have never ONCE bought bag of swag. I mean if you have pot head buddies, go to their cars and look on their floorboards. You should find all your answers there.
Thanks OppeMon, I was looking at some seed bank websites and was wondering about the size of the seeds for shipping purposes. I didn't think they were very big, but I was wondering if they were as small as say, celery seeds.
Um, I thought this was the beginner thread? I was always taught that the only stupid question was the one you didn't ask, but I forgot we're in the internet age and everything is open to attack. You are right, I have never bought a bag. I smoked blonde and black hash back in the mid '80's, and haven't done any since. I am 45 years old, my wife is 50 we want to grow some for personal use to help cope with severe pain issues. I don't want to depend on a dealer all the time (we had one living 3 doors down - he was an idiot and the cops were always at his house, he's in jail now), and I don't have any pot head buddies. If anyone I know does it they keep it under wraps. And I value my job, it's taken me most of my life to get here so I don't want to jeopardize that with a lot of people I work with (or any for that matter) knowing that I smoke weed. I don't work at 7-Eleven or Walmart (not dissing those jobs, though - work is work) but $30.00 an hour jobs don't grow on trees where I live.
Dude I was just tying to be funny, not offensive so sorry. And yes, I still find it odd that in your 45 years of existence you have not been exposed to a pot seed. Other people were cracking hardcore jokes on you for this question so why you gotta single me out man? I mean one guy said they were the size of a coconut!
The guy who made the coconuts comment wasn't even worth a reply! I know, I know... didn't mean to single you out I apologize! Sorry I had a sheltered life I guess, but my Wife told me she has contemplated suicide because of the pain, I definitely think weed would be a better path, so here we are at Grasscity
You could fit several MJ seeds on top of a penny. Even MJ seeds can vary in size, but I think the peppercorn comparison is a good one for a general idea. Seedbanks will ship stealth -- the seeds will be hidden inside somewhere, the package will be nondescript and definitely won't say anything on the outside that gives a clue to the contents. We shouldn't discuss any details of seedbank stealth here, for all we know Customs reads this forum too and we don't need to help them know what to look for. NL is a good recommendation for you. There also are many hybrids that cross some other, more exotic strain with NL that could work. NL is hardy, potent, takes well to training and such, grows relatively low, and some phenotypes are low odor. WW would be OK, but it can be a bit more finicky than NL. There is a section here on GC for medical MJ, you may want to check that out to see what others say about which strains are better for which types of pain. Generally indicas are better for pain relief, but not always. You can go with straight NL or a NL hybrid that is a cross with something else that looks like it will fit the bill. Best of luck.
Fester, may I inquire as to the nature of your wife's pain? If it is a personal issue I completely understand and will not ask about it any farther, but in some instances it may be better to try to get a prescription for something that a doctor can give (I'm assuming your not in a state where you can get a medical marijuana license). Because from what your saying in regards to worrying about your job, it may be safer for your and yours if you go about it in a legal fashion. There are, however, many ailments where nurse mary jane may be your best option. Just please be careful to take all of the necessary precautions to avoid detection (by smell, nosy neighbors etc) I would recommend getting your seeds from a person though in lieu of a website. Although I have heard many great things from several seeds banks on this forum, I personally am always cautious about ordering things via the internet that are "questionable". Maybe if you guys have kids you could ask them? Or perhaps if there is someone you know who leads a lifestyle that may cause you to believe they may know a guy who knows a guy? Anyways to answer your original questions though, I think white widow might be a little tricky for a beginner unless you have prior experience growing other plants that could be a little challenging. I would agree with the other posters that northern lights shouldn't bee too tricky, but also if hight is an option (like of your growing in your closet or something) you may want to look into a "short rider" strain. I have never grown that one personally but from what I hear they aren't too bad. And a seed should is very tiny. Definitely smaller than a pepper corn. But that is a very close analogy. I would probably say about 2/3 or maybe 3/4 the size of a peppercorn. And if your planning on growing for a while, I would recommend buying the regular seeds instead of feminized so you can pollinate one of your females to get seeds for the next time you grow. Also, if you do order the seeds offline do not send them to your home of that is where you intend to grow. Good luck to you and your wife though, For real. Also I gotta say that it makes me smile to see some one come to the forum for grow advice that isn't a high schooler trying to grow marijuana in their parents basement. Take care sir, and good luck with your grow
The doctors haven't been able to figure out her pain, some say it's her neck (she does have some degenerative discs, but that comes with age as well) some say it's her shoulder .. she's never been injured, so injury is not the cause. She can go to the chiropractor and they'll tell her her neck is out, so they crack her neck, by the time she walks the 12 feet from the exam room to the receptionist her neck is out again. Lately she gets her neck cracked and then sits and waits in the waiting room for 10 minutes or so to see how she feels. And more often than not, she ends up going back in and the chiropractor will say, "Wow, your neck is out again!" She's been on just about every treatment/medication you could think of. I'm losing faith in traditional medicines, I was just given one for my cluster migraines and it increases my chance of stroke, which I'm already at risk for. One of my other pills has a possible side effect of PERMANENT blindness, now, while I agree it would be nice to be without the cluster migraines, I don't think it's asking too much to also be able to see. I know the chances of some of these side effects happening is small, but it's a risk I'm not willing to take. And look at the minimal side effects of MJ, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to weigh the pro's and con's and come to the same conclusion that I or many others on this site have. I was curious of the size of the seeds because I make hand turned pens (fountain, rollerball, etc.) and was thinking maybe the seeds would fit inside a pen that doesn't have the ink cartridge in it. As for my job, I don't want to TRY to lose my job, but I only plan on working there another 2 to 4 years. It's really not the best place to work, we call our boss "the devil" that should tell you how much fun it is! Lol I'm just tired of putting poison in my body, my Wife and I are tired of dealing with pain everyday. These states need to wake up and change their "holier than thou" attitude and allow people to smoke a natural occurring substance rather than take all the poisons that are on the market. But my state will probably never have a medical marijuana law, we don't even have the right to carry a gun here. If I had all the money we spend fighting gun carry laws and marijuana laws I could buy everyone on this forum a porsche. It's ridiculous. And at my work they even fight you tooth and nail when you file for FMLA, I find it insulting that a guy in an office knows what I can do or need better than my Doctor. If only I could give him my cluster migraines for a month, he'd BEG to be put on FMLA. Anyway, I'm 45, I pay all my taxes, the only laws I've broken are speeding laws... It's time I do for myself and my Wife what would be best for us, I can't wait around for the laws to change anymore. Thanks for your input about what kind of MJ, and about getting it from a person rather than a seedbank... we have some upcoming 420 events in our state, we're going to check some of those out, maybe someone can help us out with a few seeds. We'll wait and see. Take care!
Good for you, bro. Respected adult members of a community are the ones that get shit turned around. I hope you find what you need, and this forum will provide all the help necessary if you just ask the questions.
I wouldn't worry too much about ordering seeds. It seems to be safe enough. Worst case scenario from what I've seen is that you get your package with a note from customs saying "we found some contraband in this package and it was confiscated." As for pain, my ex-GF had chronic pain problems. Smoking MJ helped her a lot. My current GF has a bad back, she's had surgery for collapsed (compacted? bulged? I can't remember the correct medical term) disk and I don't know what she thinks about smoking pot as a pain reliever, but I can tell she complains about the pain a lot less when she smokes. And all we have ever had up until now is just crappy old commercial weed. A decent homegrown strain should be much better. And, you know, it's kind of fun to smoke too. Makes bad TV more tolerable. Growing is not difficult if you read up on it. I had NO experience growing ANYTHING at all when I started, and hopefully I'm about 2/3 of the way to a nice harvest. And all it cost me was a few hundred dollars and a spare closet. Worst thing that might happen is you waste $500-$1000 bucks and grow something that doesn't really help your condition. But if it doesn't you can probably sell a lot of the equipment and get a decent chunk of your money back. I totally understand your dilemma of not wanting to put your ass on the line to try to find a dealer. That's exactly why I decided to grow. I had no reliable hookup and since I rarely have visitors in my house, it's less risky to grow than to try to go out and find a dealer at random. And if you aren't selling, and don't tell anyone about your secret garden, then I really don't see how the cops would find you. Most people who get busted, it's because they sold to someone that rolled over on them when the buyer got busted for possession. And the initial investment is more than what a nice bag would cost, but the second time around the cost is reduced significantly to the point where it just makes economic sense to grow if you have the patience and a place to do it. Good luck! This forum is a valuable resource of information.
After reading this thread, I wish you both luck with growing and getting some relief. I believe I know the pens you're talking about, my father has made something similar, and I do believe the seeds might fit in them. It's worth a shot. Going to events in your community is a great idea. I bought my seeds online and they were quick, stealthy and honest. I agree it's ridiculous that people like yourselves can't get marijuana when it would be so beneficial and life changing. Unfortunately, big pharma won't let it be legalized. If you could get the relief you need by growing a plant in your garden or in a closet, how would they profit from your pain? It's a very sad reflection on our society. This is a great site for advice, I've only been here a few days and have already found plenty to help me with my first grow. Good luck.
Thanks! We definitely plan on attending all the upcoming 420 events in our area! It's time the government face what a monumental waste of time and money the war on MJ is - it makes absolutely no sense!
I've only been here a few days as well, but I love the articles very informative... I think I can do this... it's worth a try and my wife is giving me encouragement everyday to start! I've already chosen a place for my grow room, it's a space 6 feet square with a skylight above for some light and there is water access right there. But I'm more concerned with the 6 foot square space than the skylight (we currently have that covered anyway). But it's just the 2 of us in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house so we have plenty of room. Anyway, I'm certainly glad I found this place, now all I need are some supplies and some Northern Lights seeds
