Hey guys so I just started my first grow after months of deliberating and planning. So just to break down the sequence of events: Friday Feb 4th - put 1 tangerine dream seed in a shot glass filled with aquafina bottle water Saturday Feb 5th - seed filled with water and sank so I used the paper towel method and placed paper towels inside a Tupperware container and placed it on a heat mat Sunday Feb 6th - a radicle emerged so I placed the seedling in a jiffy pot filled with Fox Farm Light Warrior and I put some Bio Ag Vam and activator in the seedling hole below where I placed the seed, I then made a plastic bag to cover the seedling to keep humidity high and I thoroughly watered the Light warrior with the same aquafina bottled water and let it dry out for a 5-10 minutes before I placed the seedling in there Monday - started running 2 42 watt cfl's overhead on 24/0 schedule Wendsday Feb 9th - seed showed it's head above ground Today - removed plastic bag earlier this morning, I noticed the light warrior was quite dry on the top so I filled some aquafina water into its own cap and started to water the topsoil to make it moist. All advice on how my seedling is doing, what I should be doing better and if my grow space and temps are good are appreciated.
Also I wanted to add that this being my first grow ever i'm super impatient. I check my plant like 10 times a day and I actually used a small pair of tweezers and took off the seed covering on the top of the seedlings head. I don;t know why I did it, it was purely based off of impulse and i'm regretting even touching the plant at all and not letting nature (or artificial nature) do the work for me. Is what I did going to hurt my plant down the road?
That 18% the humidity I assume? You will want to get that up. Generally you should let it knock the seed shell off itself but as long as it opens up and looks good then you should be fine. The lights seem to be pretty good. If it starts to look like its stretching or leaning over toward one of the lights then you might think about just using one for now directly over it about an inch or 2 away.
So to raise my humidity would it be better if I attach a clear plastic baggie around the pot. I've also noticed that my topsoil is drying out faster...should I just use 1 light for now and bump it up to 2 lights in a week?
I have tried those jiffy pots my friend and they dry out fast. You can do 1 of 2 things. 1) transplant pot in your medium of choice now, or 2) water sprout from the bottom...meaning place in tray and let jiffy pot wick up moister bullistic is correct...get that humidity up. You will be fine Its hard to keep your hands off them but you really should try. You'll have plenty of time to mess oround with her in the coming months. GL
To raise the humidity you can just wet paper towel and put it next to the pot under the light/on the heating pad. Although you have to wet the paper towel often so I rigged up a home made humidifier that actually works well. I took a paper towel, folded it a few times, cut a strip so it hangs off, put the strip in a bottle of water and have the rest of the paper towel sitting on top. That way the paper towel says wet for days rather then hours.
Hiya Grimloxk, The above is some good advice bro.......it is hard to keep from over attending to your plants. Good luck with your first grow and keep the updates coming. chunk
Hey guys thanks for the advice. Bullistic I used your paper towel method and it seems to be working Blutis, your absolutely right with the jiffy pot drying out too quick, had I known that I would have probably started in another type of container. Right now the update is that the seedling is basically still balled up on the top and I switched from 2 cfl's down to only 1 overhead for now. The only difference i'm seeing is that the sprout on top is more yellow than it was yesterday...is this showing some type of deficiency already???
Hey guy I just wanted to update and see if i'm doing anything wrong with my first grow, here's some pics I took today and it show the yellowing at the ends of the first set of leaves. Let me know how i'm doing.
