So I have a very Indica dominant growing outdoors here in CenCal. I posted about it on this forum a week or so ago and got some answers, did some work on it, so now I just want to get some opinions of more experienced growers. The weather has been very hot lately. It was 100F or over for about a week, now it's low to mid 90's every day. The plant was doing fine all throughout the grow up until the very hot weather, then leaves started yellowing, burning, and dying. It's in a 5 gallon pot. Happy frog soil, receiving fertilizer and nutrients I've per week. I used to feed with a smaller dose than I do now every other watering, but that got to be uneconomical. Anyway, I picked off all the damaged leaves and gave it another feeding. It looks better for now ( I think ) but it was wilting again today. Should I go back to feeding every other watering? How do YOU think it looks?
Feeding every other watering is ridiculous unless you are in COCO. also pots cook the roots if the plant is fussy. I had a plant like that a couple weeks ago and just had to plant it in the ground. Now the roots can stay cool its off and growing again. Plant it in the ground.
Hey im in central cali too. I think its about time for a new pot, its outgrowing that 5 gallon. The heats been effecting all the plants here lately. Just keep it watered and in the shade when its over 100 f bro. Dont wet it when its hot. Looks like it may need some cal/mag too. Happy frog usually does.
Alright, so planting in the ground would be a good thing?? I was worried that if it still reacts poorly to the heat / sun, it would be trapped in it that way. I'd be unable to move it to shade. But if you say so. Any tips on getting her out of the pot without damaging the roots?? As for cal/mag, I haven't been feeding her calcium but she's been getting magnesium. EDIT: Could I just bury the pot like I've seen done with other plant species or does that not work so well with cannabis...?
I'd dig out a good size hole, put some more happy frog mixed with the natural dirt so the roots can adjust and try to get the whole chunk of dirt and plant out without breaking it up too much. And put an umbrella or something up on the hot days. I'm pretty ripped so this might not make sense haha Sent from my Z750C using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Yeah like Mr. D O double G said, plant it in the ground or at least scale up your pot size, probably a pot with a color that isn't black may help. Since black absorbs more heat it probably isn't helping with the temps of the roots.
Dig a big hole and just use a store bought soil mix. Try using a bag of Ocean Forrest mixed with Happy Frog. Use that to fill your joke and leave out the native soil unless it's a good soil. The pot us to small and the plant is rootbound. Those hot days cause great stress to you roots. Using small black pots are never good in hot weather. Paint them or cover them with a light color. White helps reflect the heat. To transplant try to lessen the soil from the side oxygen pot and then turn it over and pull the pot off the plants. Turn the plant over and u like to listen the roots from around the sides and bottom to help them spread into the new soil. Ice planted make sure to fill the hole and bury the too if the soil from the hast pot. It will keep the roots from being uncovered and give nutrients surrounding the roots.
