How important is tech stuff to you?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by kannesss, Oct 26, 2012.

  1. I have come to realise though spending hundreds on phones every year, it is really important to me. I wish it wasn't so. How bad is it for you?

  2. I've had the same phone for 2 years, and in that 2 years it has almost never left my side lol. I love this thing so much I've completely modded it. New radio, new kernal, new os, made it exactly what I wanted haha

Why do you think of the galaxy note?? Huge fucking phone when I saw it. But it's still been intriguing me. I love huge screens.

Iv kept the same phone since 2010 (iPhone 3g).

As long as it can get basic apps, text and make calls its all good.

Tech is extremely important to me. I spend about 2K a year on computer parts just to keep updated with current tech and I always need my iPhone with me, I can't imagine myself going without it.

  7. Technology is... I don't know what I was going to say, honestly. It's a nice feature in life; I very much agree with the importance of it, but I think that culture tends to place a huge reliance on it. I catch myself looking to my phone for solutions in situations where I would do better to just concentrate and focus. I don't need to search google for how to make brownies; I know I need cocoa powder, flour, and a few other items, but still I second guess myself and have to check. It doesn't hurt to check, for safety, but after having done it every night for a month or two, I got it down to a science. The whole second guessing myself? Not a good feature.

However, I'd be nowhere without my iPhone; it allows me to keep in touch with important people, obviously; but I can also be attached to the social grid 24x7 almost anywhere just by pulling up the right app or website; not only that, I find myself making music on the go. I've spent easily over $800 in the app store getting interesting shit, most of it stuff like GarageBand or iMaschine, for making music on the go. So it's really made some aspects of my life easier.

It's a beauty, but it's a venomous one if mishandled.

  8. Not that important! I don't even own a cell phone or i-pod!

I don't play video games, either! Closest I get to that is "MumboJumbo" and "Freerice.com"!

I do spend too much time on my computer between GrassCity, PubMed, and Ancestry.com! It would be a bummer not to have a computer and depend on the library for research again, but I've "been there, done that" and did quite well!

    Granny

  9. Technology is something i will have to depend on to survive. Especially electronics technology.

  10. This is such a loaded question.

I honestly dont even know where to begin with this... putting it into words is not easy.

Basically, and this is going to be a spacey analogy... but I find technology to be a great TOOL... and nothing more.

Think of it like a hammer. A hammer is AWESOME when you need it. Makes building a thousand times easier, but it can do so much more! Too lazy to shut the door by hand? tap it with the hammer. Can get that push-pin all the way in? Hit it with the hammer.

See? Closing doors and using push-pins with a hammer sounds (and is) ridiculous.

A hammer is a form of technology that is a tool to do a specific purpose. Though it can serve other purposes, it is not meant to be a one-stop item to be used in any and all scenarios to the point where it is just in your hand 24/7. It is not meant to replace your hands or even the most minute amount of effort.

Like I said... really odd analogy, but it was the best I could come up with on short notice.

A cell phone/email/text/etc is meant to be a tool to assist in communication. Not to replace human interaction. You CAN live without it. People did so for a long-ass time before.

Quite frankly, I frequently 'forget' to bring my phone charger places, then I let it die. This way, Im forced to find other methods to communicate.

  11. I do depend heavily on technology, but then again who doesn't? I've had an EnV2 for like three or four years now as my phone and needless to say it's obsolete as fuck. But I don't really care because I can call and text dealers on it. My iPod is beat to shit but it still plays my music so I don't really care what it looks like as long as it does its job.

  12. i was wondering where you were going with the whole hammer thing, lol......i was about to say "well, than they invented the swiss army knife."

samsung phones are garbage, IMO. me, my family, and people i know whom have owned one have never had anything nice to say about a samsung phone....thats why that company spends so much on their commercials to bash the iphone.....because they cant make quality phones (their TVs and appliances are the shit, though).

technology plays an important role in my life, however. i read local cleveland news articles on my ipad and phone. i use my twitter feed to get an idea of what my friends are doing that evening. i am an avid gamer & have been recently watching "The Final Days of WWII" on netflix.

technology is great when taken full advantage of. i mean think about it.......before washers and dryers, how did people wash their clothes? (that was a rhetorical question) without practical hot water tanks, taking a bath really would have been fun. from garage door openers to putting wheels on trash cans, technology rules!!!

  13. Right, you make excellent points. Technology is awesome, and I most certainly utilize it frequently. So yes, it is important.

However, 'most' people seem to confuse being 'important' vs being 'dependent'. Far, far, farrrrrr too many people are dependent on it.

  14. I find I do a good balance of using tech and actually just being able to relax be with friends or whatever. I build gaming computers but lately I haven't really been gaming, yet I still spend the amount I do on the computer. I guess I just like it as a hobby.

  15. true.....alot of people are hopelessly dependent on technology..... i would be lost without it, and it would definitely suck..........but im not hopelessly dependent. i can fish and hunt, i know what and what not to eat in the woods....just let me pull out my iphone and go on safari so i know what im talking about.

    ;)

    Oh, for sure, man.

I have my own self-built PC (granted now its 6yrs old and I havent upgraded it hardly at all). I do PL/SQL development for my day-job and Im on tech nearly 24/7. I used to game hardcore, though I dont have much time for it anymore.

That being said, though, you'll never hear me freaking out because my phone is dead or I left it at home, etc, or forgot my laptop charger... unlike my wife for example. She needed me to drop off her phone at her office because she forgot it, which is a whopping 1 mile away, because she simply cant go without it for another 3hrs until shes home from work.

Theres enough other tech out there that, if in an emergency, I could easily find a way to get in contact with whoever I need without having 'my' tech on me at all times.

edit... i suppose if i were in the woods i wouldnt necessarily be able to find tech but i guess i should look up how to make smoke signals. ;)

How do you cope with how slow that phone is now? I mean I remember how nice they were when I got mine, but it's been a few models now. I'm sure you have an upgrade haha

  18. Also an iPhone for me is like a pocket computer, that I use constantly almost.

  19. i hate technology life would be better without it. It makes life easier, but life was more enjoyable before technology . Kids would play outside, now they play video games. I don't play any video games and i have and old phone that works for calls and texts. I could easily afford and iphone if i wanted one. but i seriously HATE seeing people on their damn iphones all the time.. people dont even watch where they are walking..

Im not sure we would be 'better off without it'... but people, in general, are just far too engrossed with their tech that they dont even notice the world passing by right in front of their eyes. They only care what is on that little screen or what their friends (or worse, celebrities) ate for breakfast.

We had videogames as kids, but my parents would take away the controllers during the school week. On the weekends we had them, but were often outside anyways. It should be the parents' responsibility to make sure the kids dont get too dependent on tech... unfortunately, its usually those very same parents that are too dependent on it themselves.
