For a small 3' X 6' grow room in my attic, will a good carbon filter remove all odor, or just reduce it?
yes. It should remove everything smell wise. But make sure to get a quality filter! CAN, and Phresh are awesome. HTG filters are not. You get what you pay for...
whats wrong with HTG? I was looking at them, and Virtual Sun VS800CF 8" Inline Exhaust Fan Carbon Air Filter Scrubber | eBay
I had an htg and it never eliminated all the odor. Replaced it with a phresh and odor was completely gone. I like a lot of htg stuff, but the filter I bought was horrible.
I like many people here owned one. They suck. They dont work for very long. Mine didnt even get through one harvest period and it started stinking horribly, then they wouldnt let me return it, or work with me on any level. I was told, as we are telling you, this same thing but I didnt listen. Its the smell of your grow, very important. Dont skimp on a scrubber. Dont use htg's! Just my two cents. Good luck
Well, are there any 8" filters for about 150 that you would trust? If your running an 8' fan, necked down to 6 inch venting to be able to cool your bulbs using the extra cfm, will you need a 6 or 8 inch filter on the other end? Im not sure that im going to be getting the whole 740 CFM do to the fact I am using the 6' venting throughout my tent. any thoughts?
Ive used 8 inch down to 6, and 4 up to 6 as well. As long as the fan has the ability to get proper cfm for the room, you should be good to go. I actually like my HTG fan...its a 6 inch.. As for scrubbers... Mountain aire, can, phresh are three names you can trust! I love my phresh...Ive got double the plants in my flower room that I had with the crappy htg, and I got a deal on a smaller phresh scrubber even, and it kicks butt. Buy a good one, dont look back.
Do the CFM ratings accurately represent what the filters can actually control? I have a 200 CFM Phresh filter and my cubic grow space is 50 cubic ft...
You would like to be able to clear your room out in 5 min, at least thats the way Ive been taught, then you must take into consideration the heat which is produced by the hood you are using, if you are using one obviously. 200 seems a bit light for a 50 cubic foot room imo. I would step up. I run a 170cfm fan in my flower room which is a 4x4 space. In the winter Im fine but in the summer I need to change out to my bigger six inch fan which is over 300cfm. I think the question would be if you are using a air cooled hood or just a scrubber through the room. There will be others to come along and give their two cents..
How about these? 6" for $69 bucks + fs @ Amazon: iPower GLFILT6M Air Carbon Filter Odor Control with Australia Virgin Charcoal for Inline Fan, 6-Inch Anybody ever use these? I'm looking to buy one also.
A carbon scrubber is one of the things you can build yourself, easily, that will be just as effective and save you $$. Some things aren't worth the DIY effort and expense, but carbon filters are.
The only deals online are for fan/filter combos that are low grade. I ordered yesterday a 4x12 Phresh Filter and 4x165cfm Active Air Fan plus speed controller for $176 shipped from Hydro Galaxy. Just the filter was $85.
