How far has the marijuana culture come

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Capnfalconpunch, Oct 9, 2012.

  1. The present day in 2012 compared to the time Reefer Madness came out, we've obviously come a long way in how we see weed. But back in like the 50s-70s, was weed considered taboo or more dangerous than it actually is? When I think back to that time period I imagine old men smoking pipe tobacco saying "those damn hippies and their marijuana. They'll amount to nothing".

  2. i used to think the marijuana scene was pretty closed off. Since ive moved though and started broadening my horizon ive come to the realization that ALOT of people smoke weed. Different types of people, lawyers, doctors, pigs. I think we could see marijuana as being "socially acceptable" in the not too distant future

  3. It has come so far that it arrived right at my front door step.

  4. I think that there was always people with a positive outlook on weed, just not enough people. Now we have more "facts" about how weed really isnt bad for you, and there is no way people can just play propaganda over that, so now we are seeing a more cannabis accepting america :smoke:

  5. Well my Grand dad was a full time stoner from age 15 until he died, I blazed with him often and he'd always tell stories about when he first started smoking and how careful he had to be to ensure that his parents wouldn't find out haha. He would always tell stories of how he started growing when he was only 18 and all the details about it.

  6. Not far my friend Shit is still considered illegal. Those fucken basterds. They are depriving me of my persuit if happiness and that's a fucken constitutional right. Who the fuck are they to stop me from fucken killing my self if this so called drug is do fucken dangarous, when fucken steroids and other way more dangerous Shit is out in the market.

  7. Well considering the fact that now we have Technology: Internet & scientific research being analyzed we have overcome and growing fast as a community, views are changing due to educating others.

  8. Some still legitimately think it kills thousands of people :confused_2:

  9. actually Colorado is starting a movement son! this year we vote to legalize marijuana for distribution from a licensed seller and possession of up to one ounce state wide NO MEDICAL CARDS!!!

  10. if you dont mind me asking what age did your grandpa pass?

OP i think its come a fair way, id be more interested to see how the cannabis culture was back BEFORE all the propaganda. Advances in science and the internet granting the ability to seek facts instead of government fed bullcrap would be the two major factors pushing cannabis further.

  11. So does Washington :D

  12. I wasn't around in the '50s, but when I was a kid in the '60s and '70s, the attitude towards weed was a lot less uptight than it is now. Then the '80s came and Ron and Nancy Reagan ushered in the "just say no to drugs" era, including weed as one of those dangerous drugs. The rise of the fundamentalist christian right wing pumped a shitload of money into law enforcement and suddenly drug busts and seizures were the lawman's bread and butter, so they all got on board. If it's a slow day in meth town, it's pretty easy to jack a stoner or two to keep your arrest record shiny.

Thanks to the mexican cartels, who anymore supply about zero percent of the weed smoked by real heads who know their shit, weed's been lumped in with the truly dangerous meth trade and the "war" on drugs continues. Stupid conservatives can't figure out that weed could be a real moneymaker if it was legalized and taxed like alcohol, and the law enforcement industry doesn't want to let go of the revenue from 800,000 stoners arrested a year.

Makes no sense, but there it is. When I graduated high school in the '70s, I didn't know anyone that didn't smoke weed, and I didn't know anyone that really cared if you did or not. Now granted, this was in the mountains of western Montana, not Harvard Law school, but I didn't see the stupid start to set in until well into the '80s.

the revenue from tax will far exceed that of the marijuana arrests and less work for each cop, you really think the guy in the car gives a fuck if weed is legal? the more pot busts he gets a year doesn't equal more pay. Law enforcement could give a fuck less if it legal bro. plus it puts less cops on the line with a drug dealer with a gun. Not to mention a portion of the tax will probably be issued to the law enforcement to fight the war on actual drugs. Also not to mention the money saved from not housing inmates that had large quantities of pot. The law enforcement aspect is at the very bottom of the list, it is more about these mothers and what not in MADD that are against weed and how they can regulate if you are high and driving, especially so when a DUID will result in 100x the profit of a current possession charge. evidence: my possession charge cost $100 my dui was about $12000

  14. This^

Cops will have less work to do, but the DEA will be working their asses off trying to bust people on the federal level, we need it fully legalized. Or decriminalized. :D

But guess what the feds don't have shit to do but sit on there ass all day and when that bill becomes a law in your state, guess what they are coming after your state and taking it to court. And your back were your started bud.

  16. I've lived a lot of my life in Colorado, and while I hate to be a buzz kill or anything... People have been saying this same thing for years. It was supposed to happen in California during the 2010 election season. It was my understanding that the whole "medical marijuana" campaign is being debunked anyway on the basis that it's not really legitimate (don't think I agree with this by any means)... However, if you have some good sources that this really could be it, then please post, I'd love to read them!

    Keep tokin', mah friends!
