And how does that "insignificant" detail tie into modern economics?
    Additional Details

No, it's more of how, even though the novel is based on the principles of capitalism, the principle source of motion for the first half or so of the story is based on the discoveries of Tesla in the perpetual motion-self cooling engine which would by nature dismantle the main source of economics (petroleum) for the last century.

Therefore, is it assumable that the novel is ironic by nature (through sheer ignorance and coincidence).

At the same time, it also shows how the world is tended to shy away from certain sources of technology for "it's own good" when the world's own good is dictated by people who depend on the economic source in question. Meanwhile, the "producers" of the world work in a social manner that completely dissociates itself from what capitalists are stereotyped and are basically socialists.

The novel is sort of confusing in that sense because it overlooks the management of parties exterior to those who are "privileged" and remorseless towards them, but at the same time, amongst themselves behave completely like those people they are trying to defend themselves from.

And, going back to Tesla, how is this a parable for our times?

  2. Let me get this clear, are you talking about how certain technological advancements could make life easier as well as make basic premises of economics break down, so no one chooses to use it?

Or am I far off lol.

  3. Well, if I am understanding, certain technologies by their nature undermine some of the essential foundations behind the model of their being certain people who profit by certain things being produced and distributed, and making themselves a fortune. For instance, Tesla had a dream of harnessing an unlimited source of energy. He about did it too, then he got shut down.

Why? If there is unlimited energy, the energy companies are out money. It won't be a purchasable commodity anymore. That undermines their whole business model. There MUST be lack. This is the paradox. If we progress too far, where there is true abundance, the corporations can't make money. Thus, 'they,' the 'elite,' would never truly want these sorts of abundances, and an accompanying human utopia. In the end, though, our economic model WILL break down, and achieving abundance won't be a negative thing.

  4. Cool that's what I thought he meant. I don't really like the whole scarcity/supply/demand model anyway.

  5. Yeah, basically that's what I meant. It ties into the monologue given by the owner of the station near the end of Network, but it seems like this model is sort of counter-intuitive, unless there's a formula that states the amount of development needed to reach unlimited energy sources in a way that society is capable to comprehend it, at which point we are not there yet apparently.

I don't doubt the conservative capitalists' aspiration towards utopic ideals, but they seem narrow-minded and they aren't channeling funds in the right direction. The clearest indication is the Aurora incident in Colorado, It's as much a gun control issue as it is a mental health one. If people are treated with the attention necessary, then we wouldn't even need to question gun control, plus, that socio-psychological stability only improves the efficiency that furthers technological advancement.

  6. what could we as humans do if we weren't wasting all of our energy and intelligence on remedial tasks to sustain life. if everything was entirely sustainable and free i.e. food, energy, water etc., what could we devote our beings to?...

telekinesis, teleportation, levitation, intergalactic travel, manipulation of the world around us through thought, dragonball z shit mann  lol. the possibilities i think would be limitless... :bongin::bongin:

  7. Nikola tesla did so many things honesty a genius whos ideas werent allowed due to conflict of interest...

  8. no due to power, money and greed. nikola tesla knew about wireless technology, he knew that things in the universe works in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration. why do you think they gave thomas edison the patented and not to telsa. to keep people from understanding the very basic laws of the universe.

I'd love to chat some time over this.

  10. how about right now? i enjoy reading y'all talk about it. because i know nothing of it.

Gladly now that my phone is charged somewhat lol. Where to start he was on the path to free energy, weather manipulation and advanced generators many things. Where do you wanna start Atlantis? I'm not sure of which story your talkin about. He kind of knew what's up with some of their ancient knowledge but.... In super baked btw...

Start with free energy and such. Is this stuff in an autobiography or his personal work or what?

Oh it's all personal inventions he had. He invented a ton of things honestly. I personally like the free energy one because let's be honest he was onto something, and I think free energy is possible.

Going off of memory here, but basically...

He discovered a certain electromagnetic pulse that stems from the Earth itself, and continuously goes back and forth between the planet and the atmosphere at a consistent frequency. He began work on how to harness this natural energy, and convert it into usable electricity and such. He also did work on wireless technology, one of many areas that he was far ahead of his time with.

He actually developed an 'electrical harness' of sorts that would provide wirless energy/electricity to a very large area, perhaps the area of a state. His plan was to continue to improve on this device/idea, and place them throughout the planet, so that there would be unlimited energy to power all electronics throughout the world, that anyone could use. There would be wireless energy flowing throughout the entire planet, that anyone would be able to use for any appliances or anything like that. Noone would have to 'purchase' energy...it would just be there, for anyone to use.

The companies that were funding him quickly realized the implications of this. Oh...if he sets this up, everyone will just HAVE energy. It will just be there, for anyone to use. That won't be profitable. They cut all his funding. The technologies he had built to began utilizing this technology were destroyed. He died completely poor. Upon dying, the government came in and stole all of his documents, and had them classified.

  15. Because he lied to his investor about what he was building for fear he wouldn't invest due to lack of belief. When he found out Tesla had lied to him he pulled the funding. There's a lot of conspiracies about why though, but it's just conspiracy.

  16. Tesla invented a shit ton of stuff, unfortunately most wont see the light of day since the govt took that shit.

sonar, remote control, free energy(this one actually did come out, unfortunately no one uses it other than for science projects it seems), not sure if its true or not(I'm sure it is) but I believe he actually came up with atleast the idea of the internet 50 years before it was made, as well as an electric car which he developed later in his life but by then he was severely in debt and unable to get backing.
he was actually making a device that would electrify the atmosphere to provide free energy around the world.

  17. It's a nice story, but I don't think it's true.

The incentive to invest is still there. You would still make money by selling all the devices.

i had always THOUGHT his wardencliff towers got shut down because GE(his funders) couldn't make any money off of free electricity...
i dont know that for sure though, just the way i understand it...

ok, so heres something about this wardencliff tower... im pretty sure he created it to make the energy created by aquifers available for use, this is done by conductive materials reaching the aquifer and HIGHLY conductive material (such as gold) sitting at the top of the tower, causing the current to flow upwards and be readily available wirelessly
anyone know more detailed info about this?
i think i'd HAVE to try building a wardencliff tower if i had money and access to an aquifer lol

  19. That's the conspiracy theory but in truth funding was pulled because he lied about what he was doing with it.

  20. Is this the guy from "the prestige"
