How do you tell what strain weed is?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Two Scoops, May 16, 2016.

  1. Okay, I've been doing this long enough to know you can't tell what strain of weed you have by looking. At at best you can narrow it down as a sativa or indica when you smoke it. But in science, and I'm assuming botony would fit this, how exactly would they know the strain? What lab experiment could you rig up for this?

  2. They can do tissue analysis of the bud. Ultimately they need to compare genetics to get the best shot at being 100 percent.
I say with certainty that the smoked burnt deep earthy flavor and smell is indica. Sativa is piny and fresher more "green" taste to it.
But the appearance of the bud doesn't say fucking Jack shit. Unless it's purp and even then it can be wrong. Names of strains don't always mean it's going to look like that. Phenotypes make visual determination impossible.
