Hi All, I'm really interested in growing my own crops, but have several hurdles to clear before anything comes to fruition. I'm trying to plan now for a harvest in 2011 First: The Wifey. My wife is not a huge fan of my toking hobby. She will partake occasionally when prodded but prefers not to break the law. I know if I brought up the idea of growing, she would laugh in my face for even thinking about it. She also works from home = almost never out of the house Second: Starting off indoors. I live in the NE Ohio area so germinating and vegging indoors during the late winter/ early spring is almost a must if I want a decent yield guerrilla growing. I really want to do this on a small budget and I figured guerrilla growing would allow me to do this. If I have to start off indoors then I'm going to have to fund a grow box along with the outside materials. Plus, there's really no safe place to grow inside my appt(without the wife knowing) except for the attic which is really hard to get in and out of. Third: Tending to the crops. Assuming that I somehow surmount the first two obstacles, I would need to make weekly/biweekly visits to my crops. This would require me to leave in the wee hours of the night/morning to avoid detection. I'm pretty sure the wife would realize sooner or later that I'm taking inconvenient and long "dog walks" at odd hours and become suspicious (not to mentioned covered in dirt and sweat). My nickname for her is "the detective" because she's extremely sharp at noticing things (or I'm too dumb to hide them ). After following the threads and journals from all the prodigious farmers out there, I've been bit badly by the cannabis-growing bug. The act of growing something with your own hands and reaping the benefits seems (almost) more rewarding than the crop itself . Are there any farmers out there who must keep their crops secret from the law and the family? How do you get around such obstacles? I really wish this stuff just grew on trees...
To me.. in your circumstances, it sounds very difficult to do without getting caught. I'd give you like a 2-3%. Wives that get nosey are usually doubly as good at knowing when you aren't telling the whole truth. just my experience...
I would try and find a friend that has their own place... or they can help your grow by checking on it if your not able to and just give them a plant for the help.
You're right. I have some bagseeds that I really wanted to grow, just to see how it went. I might have to hold off on this adventure until I have a larger place with a basement and a secret lair. If this stuff was legal that would solve all my problems. Seriously, thanks gov't for not allowing me to cultivate a crop in the privacy of my home.
It's funny, all my friends who smoke are wholly apathetic to the wonder of growing. They'd rather buy it and save the headache. That being said the only person I know who could feasibly house my crop isn't very dependable. What if I told my wife that the germinating/vegetating cannabis plant I have growing in the closet is a young palm tree?
That sucks bro... And if she would fall for the palm tree thing... I think u could out smart her some how. You could try taking care of it at night only. Or you could just be like think of all the money i wont spend buying it.. Then again you could say how happy it makes you and tell her who is she to destroy part of your happiness and its really not that much of a headache I just grew like three plants with hardly any effort, ask your friends dont you want to smoke that good shit man?
LOL I'm on the same page as you tokin. The fact that I have pot in the house and consume it on an occasional basis is nothing short of a miracle. I've had to fight tooth and nail for that. I'm pretty sure she would see me growing pot as "one step closer to solidifying this hobby as an addiction" Reasoning doesn't always work with those who are against the sweet herb. As for my friends, they're lazy. You say you grew three plants without much effort??? Care to elaborate? I've been reading non-stop for the past several days on how to successfully cultivate cannabis and it seems pretty daunting at this point.
I mean really a friend and I took some bag seed and germinated them. Then we took them out the water bottle and put them into two pots with miracle grow. People say not to use miracle grow because of the chemicals that will store in the plant. Then I sat the pots outside and let them grow. I came and checked on them like every other two days. Then i forgot about them (they were at a friends house) for like a week went back to check them and one pot had all 8 plants die. So I went back to checking every two or three days. Then I had to kill like 5 males. So I ended up with three plants transplanted all into their own pot. All i did was water them like once or twice a week, unless it rained. The plants didnt get that big, but we planted late. I harvested let them dry until they stem snapped when i bent it. I just put them in a jar like 30 min ago. But it wasnt that much work at all mother nature did most of the work. If you want real good bud tho I would put more effort than i did.. I just wanted to smoke for a week or so for free. It was my first time growing too. I was super proud of my bud when i harvested.
If you can't convince the wife your best bet would be to just plant them outside when the weather is right and take what you get. Maybe plant a few more to make up for the smaller size. Keep on reading man. I've got nearly 10 years of daily research and growing experience and still learning.
Thanks guys, I might just do that. I'll germinate them early april and plant them in the ground using whatever is cheap and readily available. The problem is I have a really hard time doing anything half-ass so if my colas aren't the size of brock lesnar's fists by harvesting time, then I'll probably be let down. Another problem is I picked out a great spot behind my apt. to grow but I might move next summer. Maintaining something 30 miles away would be out of the question. I may have give the seeds away and research this further until I have something steady
I had several clones that I had taken off my main outdoor plants just to ensure I could root them. I planted them in different locations around me in early summer and a couple of them only got watered by me a few times the whole season. They still lived and produced some nice buds even with almost no intervention from me. Yes the were small, but almost free so the the heck. I'm spending this fall "prepping" a couple locations in the woods near me for next years crops. I dug good sized holes(mostly that means pulling rocks and cutting roots) then back filled the holes with the used potting soil from our potted flowers and mixed in fresh compost. So they will be ready for me come spring. If you did something like this and had plants growing in them, you could either dig them up or only check on the a couple times after you move then come back for the harvest.
Very nice advice yyz0. I was thinking about going out and grabbing all the supplies to do this. I've also heard covering the enriched soil with mulch in the winter months also helps out for the subsequent spring planting.
