How do You Deal With Tolerance Breaks?

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by digital022, Jul 28, 2008.

  1. How do you guys deal with tolerance breaks?

I ask this because I have never taken a tolerance break. I've been smoking daily for well over a decade and so have quite a few people I know. I was recently talking to my buddy R about sobering up in order to find a job without having the worries of being drug tested (we're both unemployed at the moment). I then remembered that at one point my buddy R sold MJ and wasn't smoking at the time. I asked him how he did it. R stated that he turned to hard liquor (bicardi 151 to be exact) as a substitute for the MJ, and it got so bad that he had to stop drinking once he started getting chest pains.

It's not like I feel dependent on MJ, but I do have an addictive personality so it's just hard to imagine a few months with no MJ considering how long I've been smoking. I know this all probably sounds a bit silly but after talking with R I am somewhat concerned that I too may turn to alcohol as a substitute for MJ if and when I do decide to take a T-Break.

  2. well, what would dilla do?

  3. Some of us use MJ for medical puposes even though we may not know it ;)

Sometimes cutting back is just as good as breaking.

I have been smoking 10+ yrs DANK only, and when i break i just cut back, ie only smkoin once in the AM and savin the rest for night time, then moving to only night time, then moving to only weekends, by then i am usually ready to go back to my usual habbits....

  4. What up man, welcome 2 detroit is banging

Anyway, I started day 1 of my tbreak today (my 2nd one ever) - The first was after smoking daily for 6 months.. went for 3 weeks and everything worked out fine.. I felt a lot better after too. The only hard part is the first 3 days, at least for me. Those were the only days I thought about smoking a lot, after that I didn't really care about getting high even when it was offered to me by friends. I just said no thanks I'm taking a few weeks off. I don't enjoy drinking too much, I will drink a few beers a few times a week, but hey I'm in college and have to do it because it's socially unacceptable to be sober at a party during college, haha. I don't drink to get drunk I just drink 3-5 beers to get a nice buzz. I feel retarted drunk and not a nice retarted high feeling either, haha. But I went too far off topic. Overall, you can do it, just get through week 1 and you are set.

EDIT: 3 stones throw/dilla fans in the first 3/4 posts, haha.

  5. If you really feel that dependant, slowly ween yourself off. Slowly smoke less and less untill you're not smoking at all, then find a safe substitute, not smoking cigs or drinking, and you should be okay.

  6. i eat three of these a day after the first week of not smoking

and keep going with that until i want to blaze again. . .

GOOD LUCK. ive come to realize its the way of life and part of who i am

  9. w/some dick, and a bad attitude lol its just herb tho not like your gonna die

  10. If it's going to be a struggle, you have to plan it so the first 2-3 days you will be very busy. Those are the hardest days if you've been smoking awhile, so you really need to get your mind off of it. Then you can parlay that couple of days into a T-Break of whatever length you want...

  11. i just took a break for 9 days after smoking daily for about 6 months. to tell you the truth it's really not that hard just try to do other things that you enjoy. but of course i had bronchitis while i took the break so that could have helped a bit. but try it man, i took 3 hits off a bowl of some heads with some keif on the top and i was up in the clouds. havent been that blazed in a while, it was great

  12. I've taken tolerence breaks before, and, honestly, they're not that hard. You just have to find something else to occupy the time that you used to spend being baked. There are even some songs that I've found that give me flashbacks of being baked...its nice. And everyone knows that the stone you get the first time you blaze after a tolerence break is well worth the wait! If you find yourself really craving some weed then just stop and think of how awesome that feeling will be!

  13. Thanks for the replies.

I do think I am going to have a bit of a struggle, but not so much having to do with physical dependency. More of a culture shock type thing. I've just become so used to toking up daily that it would be weird not toking up. I enjoy smoking MJ and appreciate it's medicinal values, I just may have to stop for a while so I can hopefully get a good paying gig.

  14. yea its basically all about what everyone else said about finding something else to do. if youre sittin around bored doing nothing youll just be thinking "damn, i wish i could toke right now" and those kinds of thoughts never help a t-break. just find another hobby for a few weeks..learn how to play an instrument. paint a picture. write a story. read a lot of books.

or worst case scenario just watch a bunch of movies/TV .

  15. Having smoked daily for a year and a half, I've been on a tolerance break since the end of April, and the first week for me, like other people have said, is the most difficult for a TB. During that week, I had to occupy myself with hobbies and stuff to keep my mind off the bud. After that week, before i knew it, it was mid July. Im probably rambling like an idiot, but in order to have a successful and long tolerance break, reward yourself when you're through with it; I know i am cause imma buy me a VaporCannon vaporizer to celebrate when im through with it.

  16. The way I look at it is like this I've been smoking everyday for 3 almost 4 years given not a decade, but I understand what you mean I personally have not seen a point in it, I get really really high now, so I don't see the point in taking a break so I can get even higher when I'm beyond content with the highs I get now. If you have an addictive personality I cannot give any real advice because I wouldn't know how to handle the situation, but instead if all you're sweating is drug testing there are several ways around it posted here on this very forum.

  17. It is not so hard.

Believe that, and you will be fine.

It is not difficult. It's easy.
