I want to try out DWC and ditch soil just sick of gnats and soils being hot or inconsistent etc......so how do you adjust the ph of distilled water when using a hydroponics system? Like when you aren't feeding nutes.....or are there always some nutes that go in.....I found out the hard way that one drop ph up or down will make distilled water go bonkers. Even when flushing my plants in soil at the end they say to use ph'd distilled water....how do you do that without nutes as a buffer? What can I use as a buffer when using only distilled....(I only use distilled when flushing)
Regardless of what you use your water for unless you have a "decent" Ph tester, U R wasting your time & it may be where your troubles R coming from. I've been adding 1 tbsp of Ph down to 5 gal of ro water for over 2 years now & it's spot on for me @6.0 How much water R U treating at a time? With 5 gals 1 drop has little effect, with that volume.
Oh ok didn't know that makes sense now about the always nutes. im doing a gallon at a time. One drop will make it turn red on the chart or blue meaning totally acidic or base. So I have to mix 5 gal to do it I guess?
Does it even matter the last week of flower when flushing if ph is spot on? Couldnt you technically just use distilled water as is?
Probly. The whole concept of flushing is debatable, some do, some don't. I have in the past & haven't been lately.
Wait, were you adding the drop of ph up to the little testing vial instead of the gallon of water? That is the only explanation I can think of for your results.
No I literally added a drop of ph up/ down to some distilled water from the store and it turned it red/blue when I tested with the liquid drops.
Hey Noal, I was you, I would discover what I was doing wrong with the soil. Determine why are you getting gnats and why is your soil going hot? People of all intellects have grown plants in soil forever, if they can do it, so can you. I know DWC sounds great, and it is, but it has its potential problems, too.
