How Do I Use a Pipe Cleaner?

    So, it's that time where I need to clean my bong. Anyway, the slide on my bong has a built-in ash catcher and plain old alcohol and salt isn't getting the last bits of ash out of it. However, I'm not completely clear on how to use a pipe cleaner to get the last remnants of ash within the stem of the ash catcher. Am I supposed to leave it in, or use it like a brush?
