http://forum.grasscity.com/organic-growing/1116550-easy-organic-soil-mix-beginners.html That thread will help you mix up a soil. Follow the directions on the first page in those first couple of posts by ITG and you will be set. When are the mods going to make that thread a sticky? I feel like every day somebody is being referred to it in here.
Mix all of your amendments first. Then mix them with your humus component (EWC/compost). Then mix in your aeration. Then mix in your base (peat/coir/whatever). The rule of thumb is 2-3 cups of 'nutritional' amendments per 1 cubic foot of soil (7.5 gallons). Also 4-5 cups of rock dust (glacial, basalt, granite, whatever). And 1-2 cups of 'minerals'- oyster shell powder, gypsum, soft rock phosphate, limestone, azomite, whatever. All per cubic foot (7.5 gallons). Be sure to let it "cycle" for 4 weeks.
