how do I hold airstones in place?

  1. I am looking for a non-permanent tape, glue or tacky blob that will hold the airstone bubblers in place when I do water changes in my bloombox (hydroponic garden). Velro would be ideal if it could be applied underwater, but it is my understnding that Vecro should be applied and let dry 24 hrs. I am also worried about the adhesive interacting with the nutrients in the resevoir.
I have found pool and pond supplies, so far the only types I hve found that can be applied underwater are permanent glue. Suction cups do not last th whole grow. Weights move. Bubblegum might work, looking for something better.

  2. The pet store may have the suction cups that attach to the air hose in the fish section.
edit; sorry, just read the last part of your post.

  3. Whats the big deal if the airstone moves around a bit? Mine flip flops.all over the place lol

  4. Try a couple 1/4 ounce zinc fishing sinkers for about $.50. Use bread tie, zip tie, or fishing line to tie them. They will last forever.

  5. fishing sinkers are great, I prefer taking time to glue a hook to the bottom of the buckets and slipping the air-line underneath

  6. Ahhh...very clever.

  7. Amazing Goop! It's like ultra thick rubber cement. I'd consider it the "duct tape for hydro" It's in a purple squeeze tube, made by the people who make Shoe Goo. You can find it in the adhesives section at most hardware stores. They make a couple other "formulas" I've used several and they all seem to be pretty similar. It will hold your air stone and you can remove it cleanly, when you're ready. It's like milk at my house, I always have a tube lying around. I use it several times a week. Very useful for around the house fixes, too.

  8. I forgot to clarify, sorry it was late.

The reason you want to have a hook is the air stone WILL clog and need replacing/cleaning, if it's glued this process is much more hassle then you want, so glue an anchor point instead.

  9. EXACTLY, hell I have GOOP products in the garage for a project I completd years ago and forgot. Other good suggestions all. THANKS BUDS!!!

  10. Those peel and stick things used for xmas lights.

  11. Get a good airstone. The flat round one.. Not the walmart ones

  12. left-over pvc

  13. if you have a spring style dowel similar to the extandable shower curtain you can place those in the bottom of the buck.
