I have a 4x4x7 grow tent with a 400wat hps.... have a 4" in line fan on one side and a 4" duct on thetoher side leading to a 6" in line fan and more 4" ducting taking the air out of the tent and to the window of the room it sits in... i also have a 4" duct at the lower vent on the tent leading to a bathroom vent in the window of the room it sits in vbring in cold air.... i then have another fan front of the dutcing on the inside of the tent to blow more cold air into the tent from the ducting that leads outside...I decided maybe changing the lights to be off during the day when its the most heat outdoors and be on at night... did that and well see tomorrow if it helps... anyone have any other help possibly? Any tricks to drop temp... it was 78 at 11am, 88 at 1pm and 91 at 4pm and then dropped slowly from there on to about 82 right now.... Any help? Thanks, its apreciated greatly.. i want success!!
It sounds like you have a lot of ducting. The 4" inline fan and the 6" inline fan are exhausting, right? I'm gonna guess that your intake is too small and there's a lot of ducting on the intake to boot, further restricting flow. What happens to your temps if you leave your tent door open for a few minutes. If the temp goes down, your intake is too small.
Avoid portables at ALL costs. They are not what they are cracked up to be, and I have a LOT of experience with them. Go for a through the window unit. Far better, far more reliable, easier to seal, less problems, etc. etc. etc.
Ditto. Aside from being more expensive and less efficient, they are designed to exhaust a portion of room air directly outside. If you have a smelly, skunky grow space, your neighbors will soon know!
There is only 8' of custing on the intake... and yes the 6 and 4 inch are both exhausting... its bee a steady 78 today so so far no problems but ill know for sure when i get home from work at 5
Shit I'm not even stoned and I had to draw a diagram. There is something wrong for sure. Johnk always provides great advice. Open the tent door for starters. I have a feeling you have one of the fans installed backwards. Meaning you have them both pulling air into the tent or you have both blowing air into the tent. What is the approach temp? Temp outside? Do you have a sealed hood? The ducting is very questionable also make sure no hard bends. You will have gradinet pressure loss with distance in the pipe which johnk also mentioned. Here is what I would do. First open the tent and watch the temp. Second make sure you run a sealed hood. One intake for the hood and one outtake. Running straight through the tent. Don't pull air out of the tent through the hood. That fan will run whenever the light are on. Screw all the runs to the windows and vents. For now. Too many variables and need to narrow them down. Third buy a thermostat for the smaller 4 inch fan. This should be able to control your temps. Install the fan as high as possible to pull the heat off the top. Then blow it out of the tent. Still don't run it far for the test. Fresh air should just be pulled from the bottom vent of the tent. Should not need to push air in but that would be the last step. I assuming the last fan you mentioned is an oscilating fan? If doesn't fix it, I already answered my first question. You live in Mexicio where it's 90 degrees out right now. With one 6 inch vortex you can literally feel the temp. drop when the fan kicks on in a 11x11 room. 8 degrees in a matter of minute or two. I hope this helps and Johnk as always great input. Oh.. one last thing, fans themselves put off heat.
I have the same size tent and I stay at 73-75 when the lights are on. I have an air cooled hood which I leave one end open and pull exhaust through my for my whole tent through the hood with a 6'' duct fan. All the heat is pulled out of the hood and the tent at the same time. I dont see why you would run an intake on one side pulled through the other side..is this more effective? Just curious, just seems to me that you are just causing yourself to buy more fans. I use passive intakes and one 6'' exhaust it never goes above 75 with a 400hps.
I agree with you. Are buddy here is having really heat issues. BTW 78 degrees is optium for my strain. There is a huge difference in couple degrees and plant growth. At least in my grow. That's what is nice when you either have a fan speed controler or second fan with thermostat. I hope that helps. Thanks for the input. That is what I would expect with are buddies grow also. Not sure if you read the very first post.
Just stuff a couple maybe 3-5 1 gallon milk plastic jugs with cold water it will lower temps put them up high as possible and allow them to eat heat and disperse cold . Just make sure you dont drip or leak on bulbs and electric. GooD LucK
I read the first post. You said, "Are buddy here is having really heat issues"? That makes no sense whatsoever.
