Ok so I am doing a micro pc grow, and my technique has been upped quite a bit. I was going to use Solo cups, however they proved to be too thin and would dry my soil out too much. So now I'm using a small clay pot and a medium sized butter tub, I have 3 plants growing, and 1 seed planted. I did this as a strategy to harvest 2 plants, then another, then another. Unless I get males, pollen will be gathered for future seed production. I have 2 seeds in my small clay pot, that pot isn't really enough room for both to grow, so I decided to LST and make sure they stayed out of each others way growing. The bigger plant[with a darker stem, mean anything?] is just today on it's second leaf set, and the other is in the process of creating it's second leaf set. I just got done reading, and apparently you're supposed to wait until the 3rd leaf set at least....however I didn't read this until after. The smaller one with a brighter stem was creased, when I used my bread twist to create an upside down U where the soil and twist are holding it to one side. It seems to still be alive and have adjusted to being sideways though, as the leaves are mostly level now. Is this plant gonna make it? This is my VERY FIRST EVER GROW EVER so I am going to make mistakes ya'll. Also, I'm not sure if it's Indica or Sativa or hybrid, how soon can I tell by looking? PEACE!
Hi man. Thickness of the container shouldn't be an issue. There's alot of guys that use growbags..which are just thin plastic...like a garbage bag. If soil is drying out too quick either temps are too high...or you don't have enough soil. I actually recommend using a lightweight container so you can tell how much water is in it by weight. A clay pot has alot of it's own weight and it's much harder to tell how moist the soil is by lifting it. It's very important to water only when the plant needs it...rather then on a certain time schedule. With a lightweight pot you just lift it up and you'll get the 'feel' of how much water is still in there. Also in a PC box...square is better. Consider flipping a milk jug on it's side and cutting a hole in it to use as a pot...or something similar. If you do decide to switch any containers again, either wait a while or be super careful no to stress the roots...they're very delicate at early stages. Any color differences might just be slight differences in genetics or a small difference in available nutrients or something like that Pretty tough tell genetics early on. Sativas will have thinner longer leaves and the indica will be short and fat leaves. Most varieties are hybrids...don't sweat it too much, it will all figure itself out as you grow.
Cool thanks. I actually had planted my 3rd in line seed in my cilantro cause it's next to my window, and then transplanted it once it sprouted and yea I can tell it took a shock, I just hope it wasn't too bad, I just dug it up with a spoon and placed the root laying down about 1 inch under the soil, and it seems to be making it, but yea in the beginning it looked like it was going to die.
Also, how soon can I use fertilizer sticks? I'm doing pretty much organic, it's not like cannabis really needs anything to just grow. But I am thinking and wondering, do fertilizer sticks speed up the growth? Like I want a small plant, but I do want to beef it up as much as possible before it flowers. Then I want to beef it up more if I can. Halp! Looking fo some dank buds too.
I wouldn't use those little fertilizer sticks. Cannabis definitely needs nutrients to grow...hopefully they're already in your soil.
