Okay, I am throwing a big house party this month. Need to know a few things... - It is at my parents house, I am over the age of 18. They won't be home, so if the cops do show up, do I have the right to deny them access into my home? - If they say there is underage drinking going on, what do I do? (There will be people under the legal drinking age at the party) - I know that I can be as loud as I want until 11pm, but after 11 should the music be moderately loud? I am having speakers set up in my basement, in a pretty large house. - Is a keg enough for a party of let's say... 50 people tops? I heard a keg is like 7 24's of beer, that is a fuck load.
Parties aren't new to cops. Be respectful and you might be shown the same. If there are minors, promise the cops you will kick them out. Keep music a tad low after 10 pm, se neighborhoods don't mind ifyou ask beforehand. And people drink different amounts, maybe keep a 30 pack
don't let the cops have any reason to think theres underage drinking going on, and I just plain wouldn't answer the door if they came. A keg could do it , 2 kegs is always better
1. Yes, so long as they don't actually see anything illegal... then you have no choice. 2. If they say that.. well if they show up people are going to bolt. So that's no good, and if they see that, you're probably screwed. Otherwise try to keep them outside and shut the door. They have no right to do anything unless they have probable cause (or they get a call). 3. Its your house, be respectful to your neighbors and you won't have a problem. I'd get pissed if I heard *THUMPTHUMPTHUMP* all damn night. And people will call it in. 4. A keg should be fine, but you should have some liquor too. Because, you know, why the hell not! Hope that helps, I'm a student at WVU.
A keg will be enough as long as someone people bring their own or if you have hard liquor too. Don't let the cop know there are minors. Play it cool, be respectful, etc. You know, the noise level and all. Minimize the cars parked around, making it obvious. Also, try to prevent unnecessary drinking and driving.
Make sure the windows and doors covered up so they can't look inside when they come up to the door. If anything illegal is in plain sight then they have the right to enter without a warrant. So you can either, open the door a crack and talk to them through there. Or, open it real quick and walk out and talk to them. Tell them you're just having a few friends over and that you'll turn down the music and keep it down. If they insist on going in tell them they have no right to do so without a warrant. They'll probably say fuck it and leave and not follow through with the warrant. But, if they do get a warrant then in the meantime i'd get everyone and everything out of there if possible, assuming they didn't keep a cop posted while they went and got it.
All of the parties I've been to, cops have never come inside. Idk if its because they don't care, or what. But just make sure people arent on your front lawn drinking and shit. Keep all drinks in cups. Because a cop can't see a red cup in a kids hand at a door and assume its alcohol. He can't see in it, so there is no proof. Now... If a kid had a 40oz and a cop saw that from outside your door, they now have probable cause that there is underage drinking. And yes, a keg should definitely be enough for 50 people. I've seen a keg last like 3-4 hours at a party with like 70+ people. It is indeed a fuck ton of beer. Definitely turn down your music after 11pm. I mean... Go ahead and keep it loud, but that almost always leads to parties getting rolled by cops where I am from. People generally don't mind lots of people at a house party. They DO mind not being able to go to sleep til 3am because your music is soooo fucking loud it keeps them awake. Don't risk it. Just cut it down by half after 11. You should be straight. You don't need obnoxiously loud music past 11 to keep a party fun. People are already shitfaced, their drunkenness will make the fun for them. As far as denying a cop access if they want to come in... I'm not sure how that works. I figure since you live there and are of legal age, as long as you don't give them probable cause, they can't come in.
So my best bet is if they come... To quickly open the door and talk to them with a respectful manner, and tell them we will keep it down. I will have lookouts for pigs, so if they come... We shut the music down and I will step outside. Now... The biggest concern. I will probably have people smoking in my garage, is this a bad idea or a good idea? What if they fucking smell weed? Can they come in without a warrant?
Damn that's lucky parties almost always get busted around here and cops are always inside giving out mip's. One time my friend threw a party and the cops came and no one wanted to answer the door so the cops called my friends parents who were out of town and got the garage code and everyone freaked out and started running. Me, I hid inside a laundry basket and was never found So that's why I say OP, Answer the door. If there's a noise complaint and they think underage drinking is going on they're probably not gonna leave just cause you didn't answer the door.
If they smell weed, I'm guessing your party will be over and people will get busted. I think that's probable cause in most states.
Yeah, that's what I'd say. Try and be nice and respectful but don't let them manipulate you into letting them in. If they do smell the weed, I think in some states that's enough of probable cause to enter without a warrant. If I were you, I'd have people smoke out in your backyard if possible. As long as you give them no probable cause such as them seeing underage drinking or use of illegal drugs is going on then they have no right to enter without a warrant.

I went to school about 5 miles from where I live in a different town and pretty much every kid there is an alcoholic, so the cops know what's up, and aren't trying to give out 20000 tickets every single weekend. Plus, kids knew how to avoid the cops when they threw parties. Like you said, definitely open the door. NEVER pretend you aren't home, cuz then they will go snooping around, look in your back yard, etc. Just... Do more investigating than they would usually do if you just simply opened the door, asked if the music was too loud, apologized, said there is no underage drinking. Bam, done.
What if I designate a room for smoking, upstairs. My house is pretty big I don't know If they would be able to smell it, but that all depends on how many people are blazing. What if I give everyone a sploof? That will definitely help.
You might want to visit your neighbors, tell them there will be a party, and leave your number if they have any concerns so you may be called before the police, plus people get less mad when they expect it. The smoke smell shouldn't be too bad, you could get a fan or air filter. I have one of those $55 ION filter fan things and it kills the smell of day-long bong rips in half an hour.
Yeah I'd say that'd probably work if upstairs you did that. I'd open the windows and tell everyone to just try and blow it out the window best they can. But I really don't think at a party with 50+ people, people will follow through with a sploof, most people aren't very considerate and wouldn't use it really imo. But I doubt a cop would smell anything if they were smoking upstairs and you just opened the door for a second to go outside and talk to him.
My neighboors would probably tell my parents, which means they would most likely call the cops anyway. But they are all party animals, so I don't see why I can't have a good night. My neighboor is this cougar nurse and is friends with my mom, she is probably going to be a fucking faggot ass tattle tale unless I give her the D
That's a good idea. My friend threw a rager with 300+ people and told all the neighbors beforehand that they were having a going away party for his older brother. That way the neighbors know and if they suspect any drinking going on they'll think everyone is old enough cause it's for their "older brother."
Dont smoke weed in the house. My real advice is just dont have the fucking party in your parents house.
