Hot in the grow area

  1. Like 100degs hot. the plants doing great, I gotta water it everyday, & the flowering is kinda slow but begining to pick-up rather quickly. Its just 4 weeks into 12/12, I let it veg until it was about 19" on CFLs' before flowering under a 400w hps.

Its in a secure tool shed outside, no central air...I'm on my own out there, but I'm bringing in a lot of fresh air & circulating it around & back outside, plus I have fans blowing over the plant.
Is it possible that the fresh air circulating is helping the heat situation? Basicly I'm bringing in hot air & blowing out hotter air, but still fresh. I knew for sure that this plant would not make it in 100deg conditions, either that or it wouldnt bud, so far it has proven me wrong.
I know C02 would help, how much C02 am I getting from fresh air? enough?

I have an a/c window unit on standby, but I dont really want to go there, more electricity & probably end up causing other problems. If I did end up having to install a window unit I think it would be best to wait until this plant is done.

Has anybody here ever grown in such conditions? if so how did it go?
Right now in my area the outside conditions are perfect, 70's/80's. It will not be long before we will be seeing upper 90's & even worse, with %99 humidity.
So I'm going to have to so something.

If you have had major heat problems please share your experience or advice. Or if you know some things that will help I appreciate it.

    Thanks

  2. if you ever seen jorge cervantes ultimate grow dvd he basically says if the "fringe" on the edge of your leaves are starting to swell and turn up then your plant is having trouble dealing with the heat
im pretty sure he also states that plants can use up to five times the amount of C02 found in the air

  3. Davy, Last summer I had the same setup as you did. Outside shed grow, no a/c, bringing in outside air with fans. Slowed down my flower stage considerably. 11 weeks on 12/12 till I finally pulled them. Didn't get as much yield as I thought I would for the size of the plants either. Got a new plan this summer, found a cooling fan that runs on water. Lowes. Just add water & it will drop the temperature in the grow box by like 10 deg. Gonna give it a go this summer. Already seeing a stable temp in the shed this year. Hovering around 68-75 deg. Beats the heck out of running a big ass a/c.

Just a thought. Hope this helps.

  4. Thanks,
The only thing I have seen that looks abnormal is the leaves will sometimes look like a claw, tips bent downward, & then its only a few & its usualy the newer or bigger leafs.

  5. I'll have to look into that water cooler, could be a good idea.
The window unit I have ready is just a little one, 5000btu I think. I'm sure it could lower a normal temp by maybe 15/20 degs, but taking 100 down 15/20 is probably impossible for 5000btu.

I'm also looking into the portable heater / a/c units, no vents needed or anything, just plug it up & go.

  6. I have a similar problem, its always above 80 over here, usually in the 90s.
I use an AC unit for flowering, I was using it only when the lights were on and during the dark cycle it would get to about 85, and only 1 of my plants was flowering, at the end of that grow I only ended up with about 1 and half OZ from about 6 plants...
I'm on my second grow now, and 2 weeks into flowering I was seeing the same problem, as soon as I left the AC unit on 24x7 they started looking like they should.
If your plants a live and flowering under those conditions, you should be fine, but from my experience, the buds will come out looking good, but full of air, once cured they will shrink too much.
The way I see it, if I am already spending all that money to grow them, I might as well spend a little bit more in electricity and get a better yield...
